OLD: http://i58.tinypic.com/1zd91mx.jpg NEW: http://i58.tinypic.com/2q1tnd4.jpg The number of Etihad Guest Miles required to purchase a GuestSeat in Business Class on Etihad Airways will not change on sectors over 6,000 miles, although they will increase on all other sectors. |
I'm not sure what the experience is like trying to book AA flights using EY miles, but as EY has said that those redemptions aren't changing either in miles or charges, those with EY miles might get better value spending on AA flights, if practical.

From the Etihad email.
Biz redemptions over 6K aren't changing, as per the announcement, and as correctly reflected in you images, ignoring the 1 mile difference. Assuming of course 96828 is the correct pre 8th July figure.

There has always been ample availability when booking using British Airways Avios for travel on airberlin...though, of course, they had a recent devaluation of the programme involving similarly large increases in the number of miles required, too. I have never enquired about booking on AB using EY miles (I may do now, though!) but this requires a phone call - it can't be done on the website. |

I would like to tell you that the new changes in the Etihad Guest program have, after 7 years of loyalty to EY, driven me to apply yesterday for a status match at EK. I would encourage others to do the same; EK will hopefully see what is happening and run a proper Plat / Plat match.
As a sidenote, EK asked me for a "copy your Etihad Frequent Flyer Card with a minimum validity of six months". Had to tell them that I don't have one, as EY hasn't gotten around to printing it yet. |

Just used them 4500 for HKG to HAN and 8000 plus $120 SGN to HKG biz.. |

Or EY. Though I think EY has switched to using AB metal for all flights to AUH.

No idea why it shows 0 availability on the guest site. I have yet to redeem any EY miles due to it being so difficult.
I've never tried, but I expect that if you ring and ask to book an AB flight under its AB code - as opposed to the same flights loaded in the system under their EY codeshares which never have availability - that the story may be different. |

Etihad has never flown to Berlin. Under the UAE-Germany bilateral air services agreement, the number of flights to Germany, and the number of ports in Germany that can be served, is capped for both of the UAE airlines. As such, Etihad has never been able to serve Berlin - neither does Emirates - or rather, they could, but it would require the suspension of a corresponding number of services to one of their other German ports. Etihad stole a march on its bigger competitor by partnering with Airberlin, thereby giving it access to the German capital. However, the Germans have, of late, been examining this partnership and codesharing arrangement, and Etihad may find this access becoming more restricted in future.
You should ring the Eithad Guest line in order to book flights departing from Berlin as airberlin flights - these services are all operated by airberlin and cannot be booked online. Do you have the email address to write for a status match?
I imagine there are meetings going on in EK right now to figure out how to best capitalise on this. Write in - I reckon the more people they hear from the more likely they will be to provide a like-for-like offer. |
Changes to Etihad guest
Shame really.. They do offer a good service ex Dublin.. Mind you then again so do EK. I really don't understand why they would undertake such a large change. As it was spend rates were a lot higher than LH whom I used to fly a lot with. EY won it on their hard product and generally great staff... This Change just really devalues the worth of their loyalty program.
Mind you it's never too late to say there was a slight miscommunication and adapt some of their changes; for example give a discount if you don't opt for the chauffeur drive; not that id want to lose chauffeur drive but if it saved x0,000 then yep sure why not; at least it gives a choice ... I feel massively let down by Etihad, I moved 130000 Amex reward points on Tuesday to take advantage of the 25% bonus offered & on Wednesday received the devaluation news.
I now have 162k points that are now of no use as the 2x25k points from our MBNA cards will not post before 8th July and I am not in a position to book 2 F flights LHR-AUH-LHR before that date & then the redemption rates soar. We both really wanted to try the apartments on the 380, but that will no longer happen I have been told I cannot return the points to Amex, so I am stuck with doing a 'waster' flight in J so as not to loose the points. So, thank you Etihad you have right royally shafted me (and I thought BA's 'enhancement's' were bad) |

Sometimes I wonder why EtihadHelp is on this forum, their constant and largely unhelpful posts make them sound like they're a troll! How many other airlines have their own staff members on FT responding to messages posted here, is EY the only one? |

Seems like whatever tool EY management used to model out the impact of these changes, it didn't factor in that many people who gyrated to EY in the first place due to the their mileage program are now going to flee. I for one have remained loyal to EY since 2007, but after I burn off all my miles post July 8, it's Sayonara EY, Hello EK! |

Remember that if you upgrade after July 8 you also have to upgrade 48 hours in advance via the call centre. This means there needs to be upgrade class availability - which AFAIK is restricted to 2 seats per cabin per flight.
You will not be able to upgrade at the airport, where they open up all unsold seats. So, it could be possible there will be 10 empty seats in J but you won't get one - because the 2 award seats were booked and the others that were opened to airport / push upgrade will be unavailable to you... |
