New F Suite - 787-9

Hi all - Has anyone experienced the new F suite on the 787 yet? I've seen the airline's pics online but wanted to get first hand accounts on service, menu etc.

I've taken

the 787-9 in F IAD-AUH and back a few times. It's a nice cabin. Service is standard EY F service. I think they also fly the 787-9 to Zurich and maybe Singapore.

This is incorrect. This aircraft has been in service for a while now with Etihad

That post was from January this year, at which time I think it was correct.

Looking forward to doing BNE-AUH in F in 3 weeks' time, even if it is a minor update from their existing F product.

Etihad launched it's first Dreamliner service (to Düsseldorf) just two months after it first launched it's first A380 service (to London Heathrow) (A380 Launched 27 December 2014, Dreamliner Launched 1st Feb 2015) - the interior fit out for both was pretty much designed concurrently.

The differences in fit-out are due to the different dimensions, one is not an "update" to the other (minor or otherwise). The Dreamliner has a max cabin width of 5.49m, compared to the A380's max upper deck cabin width of 5.8m, so it required a different layout (that didn't have anything to do with an update). The Dreamliner dimensions meant Etihad decided to go with a layout that shares the density of the 777-300ER layout (being 4 across in First) while being a little more squished and having the alternating direction of seating in First.

So while it's a fairly significant change up from the 777-300ER (given change of all forward facing First seating orientation, wavy aisles, chilled drinks box, etc), it's just a different horse altogether to the A380 fit out (and not an "update" of given design was concurrent).

Aren't you lucky HB7 that you got told off by stargold with a smile lol.

Why does the 787-9 have backwards facing F seats? The seating arrangement doesn't require any staggering, so having a backwards facing seat doesn't make sense.

The overall dimensions of the updated suite is wider at the torso end than the feet end, so they have tried to maximise the aisle space by having 1A (a backward facing window seat) across the aisle from 1D (a forward facing middle seat), and vice versa for 2A/D.

It's a similar kind of logic to the BA CW seat forward/backward arrangement.
