Predicting OpUps v.2

tagging off roadrunner21's thread...

i'm off to pvg tonight on EK302. seatcounter is showing:

A - 7
C - 4
F - 2
I - 9
J - 4

omitted codes correspond with zero.

i'm in paid Y tonight hoping for an OpUp to J but these codes trouble me...

Have a nice flight. I am extremely interested in knowing whether you get the opup given the zeroed out classes.

TOP TIP

Dearbee

When you are in the lounge (T3) tonight (assuming you are gold) go to the desk opposite reception about 40 mins before departure and ask if the seat next to you in free.

They will usually tell you where the empty seats are, so at least if you are still in Y you get 2 seats, or they will "hopefully" tell you that you have been UG'd...

Fingers crossed for you!

update from the T3 lounge business centre...

DTB, i did what you suggested but actually a bit earlier as it's still 2hrs before the flight. the guy at the desk told me Economy was completely full. but there are plenty of J seats available. he put a comment in there to get me the OpUp and to check back with him when it's time to board.

fingers crossed for my first OpUp!

Congrats on the upgrade.
It's good feeling when you move forward, but it's a bitter one when you have a confirmed J ticket on a zeroed flight in F and J, and arrive a bit late only to be moved backwards.

it certainly felt good to get a new ticket. after i picked up my new ticket, i went back to thoroughly thank the guy across the reception. i offered him some smokes or even a bottle of whatever from DFS downstairs but he said all he's doing is his job. can you believe that? i'll be going through in 2 weeks and will make a point to stop by with a gift.

i wasn't feeling too well before the flight so flying in J really made a huge difference. managed to catch 5hrs of shut eye, even on the sleeperette... alas, no full flat on this config.

i noticed 2 other gold members get moved into J. but only after 10 min of sitting down, the FA pulled them back! they were replaced with a gentleman who appeared to have a paid J ticket. man, the look on their faces when they got the news. they downed their Moet before heading back.

until the doors closed, i was praying this would not happen to me.

also got an OpUp last night, on my way back. strangely, seatcounter.com up until 24hrs before the flight showed a pretty light load, but at check-in the agent told me it was a full flight when i asked.

before i had the chance to ask for an OpUp, she said "i'll get an upgrade for you, sir." sweet. and sweeter that i was on the right side of the cabin where there was a very lovely FA from malaysia. (sigh)

verdict for this trip: i was very lucky to have gotten 2 OpUps on the same itinerary.

OpUps are extremely common during the peak seasons.

Yes, got one from DXB to BNE two weeks ago, strangely without having any status at skywards. I am hoping for another one tomorrow (although my hopes are not that high).
