Status Match For Skywards
I recently requested, and successfully received a status match to Skywards Gold. Here's what I did:
- Go to www.skywards.com
- Click on Contact Us
- Send a message to Skywards Customer Service
- Select "Tiers" from the drop down list
- Sent them details of my current Gold status with DL and Premier Executive with UA, telling them that I was planning to fly frequently to Dubai in the upcoming years, and asking for a status match.
Two days later, I got a message from Skywards Dubai telling me they were going to forward me message to Skywards USA. A week later, I logged into Skywards and I was GOLD!

Has anyone else tried this, I am a super elite and Star Alliance Gold with Air Canada and have will have silver status with skywards by year end. If I were to get status matched then I would start flying EK instead of Luftansa right away. I love EK but I dont want to travel without beneifts like lounge access. Right now I am going about 1 trip every two months and cr my Aeroplan card. I get double miles and lounge.

I asked also as a BA Gold and they told me they weren't interested, not even in making me Silver.
As as I was flying J it really made little difference, but now I am in Y and having Silver is useful.
EK Gold doesn't get you much about from global lounge access regardless of class. EK Silver only allows Lounge in Dubai.

Actually Gold gets you prioirity in many circumstances. For instance it gets guaranteed Y seat on closed flights.
On a recent flight from Dubai, I checked in along with my wife (blue tier), my sequence on the boarding pass came ahead by 190 from her! Maybe this was because I was a Gold, hence had higher priority on the flight (which was full in J and F by the way).
Regarding, luggage delivery, I had 4 checked bags under my PNR, we were in F, and yet the bags did not come out till much much later.
There are also the mileage benefits, that add up significantly: 50% tier bonus is always worth something (specially when you fly half way across the globe with EK, in F). For example: 9000 flown miles in F on a ticket booked online with EK ends up as 36000 miles. In a single return trip, thats enough miles (72000) for a Y return ticket between Oz and the Middle East (the tier bonus itself worth bringing 9000).
Also, I noticed that the flight pursers pamper the Golds more. But this is my personal observation.
