Overlapping flights?

I've got two oneway tickets:

One:
LGW-DXB (EK2) DXB-CMB-SIN (EK348)

The other:
CMB-SIN (EK348) SIN-MEL (QF)

The overlap is

I.e. I'm on EK348 CMB-SIN on two different PNRs (one in Y and one in C).

Would EK in London be okay checking my bags through to MEL?

Otherwise I'm thinking the best way is just to check bags at LHR through to SIN, get the 2nd CMB-SIN BP at the CMB transfer desk and once in SIN collect the bags and recheck them...

Can anyone see a problem with either option?

The only problem I can see is that EK has become quite strict with double bookings lately. If they catch that you are booked twice on one flight, they might cancel reservations for one of the bookings.

Cheers,

Is that just bookings or actual tickets?

Obviously BA is a different airline - but I know their duplicate booking robot ignores paid-for tickets for instance...

Be ready for a phone call from EK- telling you you have adouble booking and which one would you like to cancel- had the dame thing with a Y and a C booking on sam flight- neede to cancel the Y soit saved me the call but as said above they are on top of it now.

The only saving grace could be- is that one question K ad for me was about the chaufeur drive- so maybe that is why is was caught?

The T&C don't really say anything against it - they only seem bothered about using coupons out of sequence...

And even then it's okay provided:
3.4.1(c) a separate fare has been collected for the unflown sector(s)

Besides that - I have every intention of flying the sectors

To answer your questions...

If you get a skilled agent at LHR, they should be able to check bags through to MEL. It might be a little challenging for them though, so just bear with them.

You shouldn't have a problem with your second option. However, if you have a longer layover in CMB (compared to SIN) then ask bags to be checked in till CMB and re-check in there.

Technically, I guess, you should be OK. However, EK has cancelled reservations on me in a similar situation to yours (I was holding 2 tickets - 1 in Y and 1 in J on an identical route - and was planning on refunding one of them) The reservation was reinstated but it was a headache.

Cheers,

Well you were right - EK has called me today but they don;t have any resolution for me.

I've spoken to three different people so far - two say "we just wanted to know you were planning to travel on both tickets" (i.e. OK)

And another telling me I was very, very bad and that they would have to deal with me tomorrow...

I have no idea what the problem is. I intend to 'fly' and use all the coupons.

Perhaps I should just buy a stuffed teddy bear/large parcel in CMB and say I bought it a seat of its own.

Or for that leg you will be picking up a large musical instrument..... (Can you still put one in a seat? Been years since I have.) Then on the day that plan falls through.....
