2 for 2 on the EK Plane Switcheroo
Just finished my third leg of a UA/EK RTW A trip.
ORD-FRA went went on UA 940.
Although my waitlist for F never cleared for my EK 46 FRA-DXB flight on July 29th, I was still interested in taking my first trip on a new J seat on a 3-class refurbed 772. I realized why my waitlist never cleared as the plane ended up being a downgrade to an old 2-class 773 with old J seats. No big deal, as I was happy that the EK agent in FRA was able to change my J seat for a July 6 DXB-BKK flight to the ever-elusive EK418 F seat, which hadn't even been accepting waitlists for the last two weeks.
Then, much to my surprise on the short DXB-DOH EK 845 hop last night, as I was walking down the jetbridge, I happened to see I was boarding a 77W instead of the usual 332. I thought I had inadvertantly walked into the wrong holdroom, but turns out the original plane was stuck in Bombay, so they end up using a 77W as a reserve on a 40 minute flight.
Needless to say, it would've been nice to have the skycruiser seat and a hundred movies on a 19" tv on the FRA-DXB leg, but I suppose you can't be picky. I've now taken a TG 744 from BKK-Phuket (45 minutes) and a 77W from DXB-Doha (40 minutes)
