Lost Baggage Allowance?

They only lost my bags yesterday, so they're well within the time to retrieve them, but I can't find, anywhere, the amount they give for lost baggage. I know BA gives based on weight, and other airlines give a set amount. If they can't find my bags, what does Emirates give? How long do they have to find them before I file a lost claim (vs the "missing" one I did at the airport?)

Sorry to hear you lost your bags, nearly all air lines pay out on the basis of the checked-in weight, http://www.emirates.com/uk/Images/EU...cm27-51903.pdf.

Probably not Emirates fault as the bags do not go missing during the actual flight, from check-in to when they arrive at the carousal they are handled by third parties and could only be Emirates fault if they were labelled incorrectly but Emirates will have to pay you.

Did you fly via LHR or any other airport run by BAA? Since the emergency security measures were introduced they have had very bad problems in getting luggage onto the right planes.

The payout is low and it is always wise to have travel insurance witch normally covers for emergency purchases needed even if the baggage is only delayed a few hours, also if you have household insurance check and see if your property when travelling is insured, may even compensate new for old.

Yeah, I have additional coverage that pays on top of what Emirates pays, I just couldn't find anywhere what Emirates pays.

I'm almost positive what happened is not that they *lost* the bags, per se, but that they didn't load them on the bags due to weight restrictions. Mine and around 50 other pax were missing their bags when we landed (yes, that many) in JFK on Sunday. They said that ONE of my bags was most definitely in DXB still, and that they'd deliver all of them to my door in Boston as soon as they could. Knowing that they only have the two flights a day to JFK, and they're most likely to send the bags on themselves as long as possible rather than to LHR or CDG and then switch over to another carrier and to BOS from there, I'd think...

But one never knows.

So, $5 a pound. Not as low as some.
