honeymoon

hi everyone, first time on the forum for me.
i'm going on honeymoon on mon 28th aug from manchester to dubai, then dudai to mauritius, all with emirates. on the flight to dubai we've been given seats 46 J & K on boeing 777-300, are these seats ok for us???
Cheaky to ask i know, but is there any way of getting free upgrade with emirates seen as its honeymoon??
any other advice to make the start of the honeymoon extra special for my new wife?

thanks

Hi,

Yours seats are near the back of the 777, and because the plane narrows, there are only 2 seats on either side of the centre seats, rather than the usual 3. Thus, it'll be just you and your wife, with noone else to climb over.

As for an upgrade, it's pretty unlikely unless you've got any status with Emirates. There will be Gold, Silver an Blue members who in theory will get priority in the event of Economy class being oversold. No harm in asking though :-)

For the DXB-MAU flights, make sure you get a window and aisle seat (the seating on the A330 is 2x4x2). I'd recommend 25A & B, or 25 J & K as these are the exit row.

Have a look at Seat Guru for further seat info.

Cheers,
Rick

From my experience, Emirates sells out business class on the Manchester-Dubai route most of the time, as it's good value, the chauffeur service is a big draw and, most importantly, it saves us Northern folk the pain of having to travel via Heathrow.....so sorry, but I think your chances of an upgrade are v slim.

thanks for the replies, and the advice is much appreciated.
I hear emirates is a good airline so hopefully we'll have no problems.

thanks again

Right now the flight is looking empty in both Business and Economy, so the chances of an operational upgrade are slim. However, I wouldn't hesitate to ask with regards to the honeymoon. You may get lucky, depending on how nice the MAN staff are feeling that day

Also - the good news is that you are on one of EK's newest planes which is fitted with the amazing ICE in flight entertainment system.

Cheers

I do not think many airlines offer it, (maybe as part of a package by tour operators).
Best chance is as an Op-upgrade, depends on the rules and how much discretion the check-in supervisor has, unfortunately airlines have been duped in the past with the honeymoon thing so probably there would be no chance of getting it other than at check-in.

Here are a few things you could try:

Phone the airline to check you defiantly will be seated next to your beloved whatever happens, they will probably attach a note to your ticketing info for the check-in staff that you are honeymooners.

The other turn, up for check-in, in you suit with button hole and your bride likewise, have a few friends along throwing confetti, may not get you an upgrade but they may move you to the business class check-in desk if all the economy ones are busy.

Anyway, all the best for for the big day and the future.

I'm not sure the flights DXB-MRU are operated by Airbus aircraft but by Boeing 777. Better check the reservation informations, amadeus.net for instance.

Ah, OK. The last time I went to MRU (3 years ago!) it was an A330.

I flew EK on my honeymoon, admittedly in J throughout, but the airline couldn't give a stuff.

The travel agent had advised them - I mean it wasn't as if we were fishing for an upgrade as on 3 of the 4 flights it was only J & Y - but they didn't even acknowledge the fact.

Compare that to SQ who we also made a relatively short flight with on that trip - there was a cake for us and a card signed by the entire crew. My champagne glass was never empty and they really went out of their way for us.

Interestingly the first sector was MAN-DXB and there was a bloke at check-in giving it his all to get him & family upgraded. No dice, but it didn't stop there - he kept at it on the plane before take off too and eventually I saw the purser disappear into the back with two glasses of champagne., presumably in some desperate attempt to satisfy this bloke's ego. It really was embarrasing, but even if you tell EK what's happening there seems to be no communication from reservations to the cabin crew.

Best of luck with the wedding!

-> Swiss Tony... had the same experience on my honeymoon with SQ in Y three years ago - a large cake was prepared on board for this special occasion and real champagne glasses were brought down to us on row 35
