Hi,
I am a new member.
Can anyone enlighten me why Emirates let passengers take full Golf bags and scuba diving equipment onto their flights for free (weight) but not Musical Instruments which probably weigh less and take up a more even (cases) cargo space?
I am teaching in AbuDhabi and tried to take my keyboard - which was in a flight case and they charged me 300 - aaargh!
Any advice or ideas?

I am not 100% sure, but a guess it may have something to do with handling issues. Musical instruments need special care in cargo because they are quite fragile.

Thanks Sadiqhassan,
Fragility has nothing to do with it - my case was taken on the flight. I paid for it and the surface is scratched of the case. But they still took it - so there is no issue with fragility - it is to get the Golfers and divers there but not the people who need their "tools of trade."
As I said "they charged me 300"
Not fair!

Hi,
Sorry but I think I was a bit unclear before. What I meant to say was that musical instruments are more of a liability and easier to damage while being in the aircraft. In this case, EK would need to reimburse you for the cost of the damage.
With that being said - I went to the EK website and I now understand what you mean. Musical Instruments must be counted as part of the checked baggage allowance, whereas Golf Clubs are carried in addition to the allowance. Quite unfair - I agree!
