ticket validity

can someone tell me definitely

is an EK ticket valid from date of purchase or date of first ticketed flight?
I am having an issue with them at the moment.

I know some carriers are one and some are the other.

ON a paid ticket, it's usually one year from date of 1st departure.

On award tickets, some airlines put it down as one year from date of issue.

yes that is what I thought and also what I have been told by someone in melbourne
but when I tried to change the ticket I was told differently
I was told that the ticket was only valid till the last cheappy period this march
purchased july 05 for travel march 06 so should be valid till march 07 I would think.

Unless it's a 'special' ticket when there ARE validity restrictions... for example if a particular fare is valid for purchase for travel up to 31st March 06, then the fare rules literally.

What is the fare basis, and routing? For normal F, C and Y tickets, it's one year. Any other fare basis' must be looked at more carefully.

This is the key. Mainly it is to prevent people buying tickets in low season and changing their ticket into high season for free (it happens more than you might think)

Cheers

No it doesnt state a date when the ticket expires.
just
OUTBOUND MUST BEGIN ON/AFTER 1APR05-31MAR07 on first international sector
so i was under the impression it was a one year ticket from first date of travel. (mar06-mar-07 but in the low seasons which are sept nov mar etc)should i take it further or accept the cancellation fee as they are saying

All of my EK-UA RTW C-class tickets have been 1 year validity FROM the date of first fight (not issue)

I usually buy them well in advance of first flight with only first sector confirmed and all other segments OPEN. I sometimes have a few going at one time ..

So, for example one recent ticket was purchased in April 05, first segment was August 05 last segment will be early August 06.

thanks,. I hope you are right.
when u look at t and c though it doesnt actually say valid from first flight does it.

on the eticket under the flights does it have(eg)
not before 3 mar not after 3 mar

each of the segments state the date of travel but no year so I took that to mean one year validity from that date is that how you read?)
EK are not being helpful at all!!

RTWs are not fared differently according to season, which is why they are so great (for me, anyway )

Cheers

Could you get the fare basis? Usually you can tell the seasonal validity by that. If it is something like "YR" then it has no seasonal restriction (usually) but EK has fares with "L" and "H" in them to signify low / high season

Cheers
