JFK check in opens at 7:30pm

Just a heads up that check in opens in the evening at 7:30pm at JFK. I had called reservations as I was arriving into JFK quite early. I was blythely assured that the lounge opened at 5pm. That might be (and I was told again tonight that it does) - but you're not getting thru security without a boarding card, and the check in folks showed up at 7:30pm. The flight leaves at 11:30pm, so four hours in advance is plenty for most - but didn't happen to be for me. If I had known, I could at least have found a coffee shop (lower floor in the same terminal) and whiled away some time.

You sure you don't want to head into town for that free dinner and free limousine back to the airport?

They no longer offer the free dinner to those traveling on award tickets, or somehow I would have modified my SoCal/Dubai wardrobe to allow me to go into town on a chilly New York night.

On my first JFK-DXB flight and when EK still used the Aer Lingus lounge at JFK, I arrived to check in at about 3:30 p.m. I was unaware that check in did not open until 7:30, but was able to obtain a pass for the lounge from an agent at one of the smaller podiums nearer to the terminal entrance. As that lounge is landside, obviously there was no issue with being able to get through security, but it was nice to have access when I had 8 hours until departure.
