No unfortunately, there are an increasing number of refurbished 777s with the new J and PE products but the old F unfortunately (currently used on routes like STN, ICN, etc.).

Ah thank you for this clarification. Much appreciated.

Not flown EK before and looking to book in F from HKT to Europe in January.

How regular are aircraft swaps? It looks as though GC F would be on DXB-BRU leg of the journey. I would be pretty gutted if it was to get changed, and understand there is always a chance - but interested to hear if this is regular or not? (For example, on QR it is very regular on some routes)

EK F is still F even if it is in old F and not GC. Frankly GC is over rated in my opinion If there is a change of equipment everything else remains the same unless it is change from 380 to777 with no bar or shower. No airline can guarantee that there will not be an equipment change. Just enjoy the ride.

BRU has probably been amongst the most stable recipients of the GC F over the years. There is a chance of an equipment change, but I think it is low.

EK tend to plan schedules in advance and stick to them. Way, way more stable and predictable than the QR lottery.

I mostly fly F.
Cash tickets, never redemptions.
One of the top EK flyers in my country.
The only real benefit of GC vs 'traditional' F is the bathroom to pax ratio.

GC is cool for the first cple of trips, and then you realise just how practical and well-thought-out the original F seats were.
EK and their product team were ahead of the curve back in the day.

Plus, if we're being brutally honest - people are not paying a premium for GC vs non-GC.
From an economic standpoint, I doubt EK can justify retrofitting more planes with GC when the premium above their normal F seat isn't there.
Add in that GC means cutting down from 8 to 6 seats.

Additionally mix in the "it's not as great as you think" from pax perspective - and it's clear EK won't roll these out.
I mean GC seats are not even fully flat.

If the existing F seat was just made "just a little bit bigger" in every area, and some place to rest/elevate your legs, it would probably make the perfect F seat.

Since we're dreaming - if EK then figured out ground assistance at EVERY DESTIONATION, they'd beat the pants off every airline's F experience (currently La Premiere dominates the ground experience by a mile).

I think this is firmly in the column of opinion?

STC said in two separate interviews that:
  1. The GC is the target future seat for the 77Ws and 77Xs. He said they may (my word, as things change, but IIRC he actually said “will”) retrofit the 77Ws (presumably the newer ones far from retirement) with the GC in another phase of retrofits. He said (again, IIRC) the main limitation preventing the F retrofit to GC on the 77Ws is supply chain issues, but I do remember him saying it would take a long time and J and PE are the priority.
  2. In another interview he covered the 388s, and he said they have another seat, “inspired” by the GC seat, for the 388s on the drawing board.

I don’t think moving from six to eight seats makes a difference. Fares are already, on many routes, significantly up from four or five years ago (demonstrating people are willing to pay for a luxe experience). I also doubt a majority of flights had full Fs (paying customers), even before fares rocketed.

Interesting, can I ask what you find deficient with the GC seat?

I 100% agree. The seat often wobbles and isnt as sturdy, its not nearly as comfortable to me as it doesnt lean against a proper wall when flat the way the regular F suite does. They are very gimmicky to me. I often fly AKL-DXB in F which gets the newer A380s with the slighty taller, wider F suites and honestly thats as good as it gets for me.

In addition to DLATL777 - GC seats don't go fully flat. I also find the table position not quite right. Screen is too far away for me. Doors sometimes open by themselves, or, are too difficult to open.
First world problems - but I find A380 seats have less issues.

I think that has to be part of why EK stopped installing them at 9 aircraft. it seems almost more of a marketing ploy than a sustainable product, certainly not fleet wide. Honestly the newest refreshed A380 F is plenty good. I often get that on AKL-DXB or SYD-DXB and its fantastic.

How regularly does the newest refreshed A380 F fly between DXB - AKL and vice versa? (Due to fly that in April.)
Also, which registrations should I look out for on FR24?

448/449 are always refurbished as they have premium economy.
but the A380 does not have the GC First.
there is discussion on another recent thread on the tail numbers - search Auckland in this forum and you should find it
EV or EU series.

As others have said, AKL always gets refurbished F cause the aircrafts have PE.

Planning to book EK F on the way back to the US from an Africa trip this summer. Ordinarily would return to either JFK or IAD—is it worth going out of my way to do DXB-ORD on the return to experience game-changer F? I’ve done regular 777 F and A380 F multiple times (and have another upcoming EK F trip DEL-DXB-IAD in March where I’ll be on the standard 777 and A380 again), so am inclined to go out of my way a bit for game changer for the novelty.

Depends on how much "out of the way" it is / how much you care about spending extra time / etc. It's a great experience. Would JFK/IAD be your final destination or do you have a connecting flight anyway? If you haven't done it before and it's not too much of a pain, consider doing it, especially since it's a long route where you get to max it. The A380 suite will never look the same... :p It's pretty amazing.
