My Own First Bus

Flew in from CGK to DXB this week. Its a rotten departure time at 1240am but as most EK regulars know, the schedulers in The Sandpit only care about the morning departure bank. EK359 lands at o'dark hundred. There were only 2 of us in F. Service was most excellent, even though I always sleep hard on this sector as my typical connection is onwards to the US.

When we arrived, we were forced to a bus gate. I cant remember the last time I have had this.

The funny thing was there was a bus waiting for us. Dedicated for F passengers. Since there were only 2 of us, I just assumed we would wait for the J Class minions to join us, but no, the ground crew would have no such thing, much arm waving ensued when someone asked if they wanted to wait for more people and the driver took off before anyone else made it down the stairs.

Even though I have been flying EK for a long time, stuff like this still makes me smile...

Our own private bus (for 2 people!)

Mainly flying between South Africa and Europe I sometimes wonder if it ever gets light in Dubai. My usual time at the airport is between midnight and 4am....

That picture makes me want to fly Emirates F again. Once upon a time, there were economical tickets in F from Windhoek (Namibia) . Once upon a time, Emirates F could be redeemed with AS miles - until overnight, Emriates yanked availability. Ahhh, memories.

Had it on LHR-DOH, DOH-MLE, MLE-DOH a few months ago on 2 different trips.
I hope for a bus gate when I am F on EY.

Just looked up my flight info. We flew a connecting flight from Windhoek to JNB on SA, then Emirates F onward. My memory is that we did it twice; the record I just looked at was in 2017. We originated in Windhoek, flew onward to LAX, then had several months on the ground before returning on the same Emirates ticket. Rinse and repeat.
