The counter is quite easy to miss but it is visible in the photo below, behind seat 4D (to the immediate left of the gentleman standing in the aisle)

Similar to what QR have on their B787 / A350.
|
And you obviously don’t want a real ‘bar’, a place where people gather, stand around and talk, in that position.
It looks more like what they call the ‘social area’ in the F cabin, although that of course is on the other side of the (front) curtain. |
Isn't that what they have in the B772's with 2 class config? I remember flying to MEX and they had such kind of "bar" area. It was much better located between the 2nd doors so you had space to stretch your legs without disturbing anyone

To be perfectly honest, this decision from EK is absolutely mind boggling to me.
It was already baffling enough that they stuck with the incredibly uncompetitive current 2-3-2 layout for so long, but to then announce a major upgrade of J on almost the entire 777 fleet and go with this layout? I mean, that just blows my mind. And then consider doing all of this while QR have been absolutely blowing everyone away with new types of seats, and doors, and all sorts of innovations for the past number of years. Makes no sense to me. |
It makes total sense. EK has a very strong brand, so why bother wasting money on innovating in J when they can fill the planes at a profit anyway?
The EK recipe that they have proven to work is: -consistently good soft product in F -A380 showers and bar -lots of content on the IFE in Y Who cares about J? |

snip snip The 77W J product is now (well, in the rather distant future) equivalent to the A380 J product (minus the bar of course). It is comfortable (including space in the footwell which you don't get on these herringbone layouts). No gimmicky low and rattling doors etc. QR (and others) are trying to get their J product to compete with EK F. That is because a majority of their fleet does not have F, so it is totally understandable . But for EK to try to get their J product to compete with their own F would be insane! |

Otherwise, it is strategic suicide for EK to try to react to a smaller rival’s decisions, who have a different segmentation model from EK’s. |

Looks like the new EK A350 gets pretty much the same seat. But this report finds a major flaw — the thick fixed armrests make the bed too narrow! Is the new 777 J seat with the same flaw — or perhaps its greater width avoids this?
This video is not clickbait, it shows compellingly the problem. |
