EK232 Switched from A380 to B777
I booked business class on EK232 from IAD to DXB in March of 2024 for a trip to the Maldives. When I booked, the flight was scheduled to be on an A380. Now I see that it has changed to a B777. Very disappointing as it is going to be a 2-3-2 configuration instead of a 1-2-1. I have 2 questions:
1) Is there any sort of action you can take to get some sort of credit for flying an inferior product to what I thought I would be flying when I booked? 2) Is there a way to know whether this flight will be on the newer B777 business class product that at least has full lay flat seating, or am I stuck on the old and terribly outdated B777 with the inclined seat? Thanks! |
I am booked on the same flight in Jan 2024 - so disappointed to see it swap to a 777, was really looking forward to my first A380 flight.
I don’t think Emirates has any compensation for equipment swaps unfortunately. Just have to hope it swaps back. For lie-flat vs angled, I think the 306 economy seat 777 have the new lie flat J seats. Expert flyer is showing the lie flat config for my flight currently, but given it’s still a relatively small part of EK fleet, and we are still pretty far out, there’s always a risk of further swaps. |

No, unfortunately (as is the case for any airline I am aware of), the equipment can be swopped at their discretion and there is no compensation for that. 2) It is way too early to say what actual frame will be used on that route and on that day. The newer configuration has only been retrofitted on a very small portion of the 77W fleet, so I would not count on it. The older configuration is certainly very far from class leading, but I personally can sleep well in those seats. The angle is very small and is partially offset by the 'nose up' aspect of the aircraft in flight. try to get a seat in the smaller from cabin (row 6 or 7) which gives a relatively private experience (especially compared with the somewhat 'dormitory' feel you can get on the A380. |

Thanks for the responses. Unfortunately, I booked a Business Special fare and can't pick my seats until 48 hours out. I am flying with my wife and when I booked the A380, i thought this would be fine due to the much larger business class cabin where every seat has direct aisle access. Now I'm just annoyed/worried that since we can't pick our seats, we are going to get stuck with middle seats in the 2-3-2 configuration with no aisle access and much less personal space. I am guessing Emirates also wouldn't be open to allowing us to select our seats as a form of "compensation" for changing the plane type on us?

Change from IAD to JFK would be possible for you?
|
3 class vs 2 class
biz class flight dxb to iad nov 23 also switched from a380 to b777. the version of the b777 it three classes according to seat guru. does that mean we have updated hard product? Thanks so much!

thank you! as per seat guru it’s 304Y not 306Y but it says it is the latest hard product. I guess nothing I can do for now. thank you.

I hope this helps clear things up

Clear as mud? |
Seems like based on that note above, even though I will have to worry about potentially getting stuck in a middle seat with no aisle access, I will at least not have to contend with the angled lie flat seats on my IAD to DXB flights. Thanks for passing along that info. Out of curiosity, where does one find information like that?

This site is very good:

I thought IAD was one of the more successful North American destinations for EK. Why down gauge to 777? Unless they are planning to overhaul many A380s during this period ..
Also, at minimum I expected them to exclusively fly Gamechanger 777 as they did during the pandemic (the last time IAD was down gauged). |
