Onboard Upgrades
Hi there,
I am Skywards Gold and have an upcoming trip SYD DXB DUB in April booked in Economy Flex outbound and Economy Flex Plus inbound.
If upgrades are confirmed in advance the outbound mileage required is 81,250 to business. If I upgrade onboard, segment by segment the mileage required is 109,200
I have previously cleared before departure and called EK who have adjusted the miles as if it were booked as a through segment.
Does anyone have experience of EK adjusting the miles after they have been processed onboard as individual segments?

I spoke to an agent about this a couple of months ago as I wanted to upgrade both legs LGW/DXB and DXB/SYD but was only able to upgrade DXB/SYD (J to F). I was told that if the first leg is subsequently upgraded I will have to call them to get the miles total adjusted to the "through" rate.

Anecdotally, they cannot (or are not allowed to) retrospectively adjust the miles charged. I stress this is anecdotally, I have no personal experience in this respect but have heard this from others who have first hand experience.

Thanks for the advice - I roll the dice with the agent over the phone if Im lucky enough to be upgraded.
Ive often had to press reasonably hard by telephone when Ive had advance upgrades so I can only imagine the difficulty in this circumstance fingers crossed

Its worth a try. Unlikely that a regular phone agent would have authority to do it right away, but they seem to be able to request permissions from the managers / back office, so I would give it a shot.
My plan in this case would be to try and do the DXB-DUB upgrade in the lounge / airport during your connection. They have a skywards desk there and i imagine it would be easier to do in person. Once the flight is open at airport checkin, any available seat can be upgraded.
