Could someone explain why EK requires a PCR test to fly to the US?

I am thoroughly confused.
The US government only requires an antigen test to enter the US, for US citizens.

I cannot figure out why EK is requiring a PCR test. Can someone explain the reasoning?

Antigen tests with a travel certificate are not available in Dubai.
PCR tests are widely available and very cheap ($40) everywhere in Dubai.

It's a government requirement, not an EK requirement.

That's incorrect. The US government does not require a PCR test.

Furthermore, you can board a EK plane in ATH or MXP with an antigen test.

This isn't worldwide either. You can board an EK plane to the UK from DXB without a PCR test. So I still don't understand why EK is doing this for US-bound flights.

The UK doesn’t require anything anymore.

the US requires a test with a certificate. Dubai only offers PCR certificates.

UAE Government obviously. Flights from ATH or MXP to the USA don't go through the UAE on their way. Flights between UAE and UK don't have anything to do with this rule.

The very first reply tells you the reason.

and isn't ek the only airline out of dxb offering non-stop flights to the US? everyone else routes through Europe or elsewhere so based on that I can see why it applies specifically to EK out of dxb.
