Status Match
Hello all,
Looking to Status Match my BA Gold with Emirates Gold whilst currently holding Emirates Silver. Has anyone had any recent experience of doing this?
Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure if they still do it, but from what I remember a few years ago they would offer instant match to EK Silver but only a fast track to EK Gold rather than a full status match, requiring you to take e.g. a business class return flight. Not sure how many recent examples you'll find here, best bet is probably to contact EK to find out.

I see the Skywards help form has disappeared!
Hmm, perhaps you can use the Business Rewards form and they can forward it on: https://www.emirates.com/english/hel...account-query/

Well, as I will be flying a lot more this year in the Region and also to Europe I got on the live chat and asked EK if they would Status match my BA Gold Card (especially as I have just been downgraded from EK Silver to EK Blue).
EK said they don't do it anymore themselves and that I need to apply via statusmatch.com. The guy in the chat actually typed in the link so I felt better that it was "official" from EK rather than just a piece of advice.
Anyway, I went to statusmatch.com - their website had a bug so wouldn't even proceed past the first drop down so I had to log a support ticket (which made me a bit suspicious). To their credit the website was fixed in a couple of hours so I proceeded and then found out that EK will consider matching BA Silver to EK Silver and BA Gold to EK Gold and if I want to apply then it will cost $149 USD which is non-refundable whether I am successful or not. My initial reaction was to say "no way" but considering I am now blue on EK, wil llikely fly them quite a bit this year and EK Gold gets lounges at DXB and abroad, 100% mileage bonus etc etc I decided to chance it.
I had to send a screen shot of my BA gold card - simple enough, and the next day they asked for a picture of me + government id which I suppose is routine these days but cant say I was that happy at sending to an organisation that I know nothing about. The id was approved almost by return and they told me I'd get an answer from Emirates within 7 business days.
Today, 3 days after applying, my request was approved so I guess that means I will be EK gold again for the next year (will wait a day for my account to update).
I guess I am pretty happy that the application process was easy and that I was sucessful. As I will be flying EK quite a bit then the $149 will be well worth it (I will drink that in Champagne at the Champagne bar in DXB in a couple of visits!). The extra miles etc also make the $149 worth it as buying miles on EK is stupidly expensive and I think Skywards is one of the worst FF programs given how few miles you earn per trip and the cost of redemptions.
In case anyone from EK actually reads this board - I would say good for you for doing status matches. If you had turned me down then I would be much more likely to favour BA over EK where possible or even use my *Alliance Gold card. I would say the fee is probably as much as I would want to pay being a serious traveller rather than someone who just wanted a gold card for maybe 1 or 2 trips (in other words it deters time wasters)
