Is this normal or was I unlucky?

I haven’t flown Emirates for 5 or 6 years until yesterday and was looking forward to my flight as I remembered them fondly before.

My routing was Europe-DXB-BKK with the EU to Dubai on 777 and the Dubai to BKK on the 380. All was in biz class which is what I’ve flown before.

On both flights it took longer than on any other airline to get the first drink and meal service. Way longer than I remember before. At least an hour before drinks and nuts and 1 hour and 45 mins after takeoff for dinner to be served. Is this the new protocol? Also have the seats on the 777 changed? I remember sleeping comfortably before but now they have a foot cubby I don’t remember before as well as a hard lump in the back when in bed mode. The lounge in Dubai C was packed to the gills every seat taken on arrival although it did clear up an hour or two later. Finally is it normal to have boisterous groups drinking at the bar on the A380 from the moment the seatbelt sign goes off to the moment we are preparing for landing? The bar is a nice touch but it’s hard to sleep with 8-10 passengers getting hammered and progressively louder throughout the flight? Perhaps I chose seats too close to the rear.

I was disappointed this time in Emirates as I remember it fondly so I wonder if it’s a one off or a normal experience nowadays. The entertainment system is still awesome though!!

The service certainly isn't speedy but I can't ever remember an hour before drinks.

The lounge in C (or the newer one near C9, as there are two) is a dump. Too small to be of practical use, you only need a couple of flights like Mumbai and it gets swamped. I tend to use the other one near C16 or even the main one at B gates and head down for boarding.

Yes the boisterous group at the J bar is quite normal, EK employs them specifically to annoy pax trying to sleep...

In all seriousness though, there are various generations of seats and you may have been unlucky. The 777 seats haven't changed at all though in terms of the foot cubby. The food service is unfortunately always a bit slow but in J shouldn't take this long. I'm not shy about asking for a drink if it's taking a while
