Birth on board

Currently sat on EK722 which has returned to Nairobi as a passenger has delivered a baby boy.

Unfortunate how people ignore repeated requests to remain seated so the medics can assist the passenger who is right at the back of the plane.

Should get special status, but probably got offloaded due to no paperwork. Passenger count did not tally anymore....

(Seriously, I wonder what actually happens in such a case).

Special status only if the mother followed Emirates' rules of flying while pregnant. Otherwise, no special status, no ticket for later date, make them buy another one when they are fit to fly again. It's a major inconvenience.

Yes. When I saw it on FR24 it just looked like a late departure to me so I figured there was a delay, then saw your first post so I checked flightaware as well.

Nope - it all happened at the back of the economy cabin. And when we returned to Nbi she (they) was disembarked from the rear of the a/c.

I must say despite it being irritating and missing a business meeting in Dubai the next morning it was professionally handled by Emirates people. Probably helped that it was after midnight and most people were dozing.

Im surprised she was allowed to fly.

when i flew with my wife last year (she was expecting), both the check in staff at shanghai and ek staff at boarding were thorough in their questioning i.e. how many weeks pregnant is she, any problems etc. this happened both at shanghai and dubai airport with our onward flight to the UK.

not complaining as we got VIP treatment at immigration in shanghai by using the crew channel 👊🏽

I'm not. It is far from uncommon that African ladies don't know how far pregnant they are.

Or maybe she answered the thorough questions to their satisfaction?

Or maybe she just delivered early?
