Non-Plat upgraded from a Saver ticket. Must be a rare occurrence. Well done!

Something fishy going on. I chatted to one of the lounge ladies and said it seemed odd so she said she'd have a look. When leaving the lounge I asked her if she noticed anything and she said there were definitely Economy Flex ticket holders on board who hadn't been upgraded but she didn't know why. Hopefully Golds moved up the pecking order again but I won't hold my breath.

Paid nearly 1500 quid for a Y MAN - BKK (last minute) so although the double op-up was welcomed, I felt like I had pretty much paid for J!

Upgrade given: Y - J
Upgrade location: Asked for an exit row seat, check in agent called through and it was granted, then when she printed the ticket it was business, she was surprised because how early into checkin it was.

Date of travel: 04/08/19
Tier status: Gold
Tier miles to date: 141,000
Skywards miles balance: ~ 115,000

Number of pax upgraded: 1

Upgrade given: Y - J
Upgrade location: Two hour connection but ticket had changed on landing on mobile boarding pass
Route: DXB - BKK

Hi all, it's been a long time I've been watching and hoping to post on this thread :)
After multiple years AF Plat (< 1% upgrades), and then LH SEN (~ 10% upgrades), I switched to EK since 2018.

Upgrade given: Y - J
Upgrade location: App (showing new assigned seats)
Route: DXB-MRU
Flight number: EK701
Type of ticket: Flex
Date of travel: 07/08/19
Tier status: Platinum
Tier miles to date: 0 (qualified 10 days before)
Skywards miles balance: 60,000
Number of pax on the same PNR (Including OP): 2 (qualified to Gold 10 days before)
Number of pax upgraded: 2

Missed connection coming from EWR, so we were re-booked. Flight seemed full (F4 A0 J0 Y0)
The newly assigned sets were very far away (6 and 17). Seeing available middle seats in row 3 (F), I tried luck at the lounge and asked to be seated "more together". We were reseated in row 8 (J) "that's the best I can do" :p

Welcome and congrats. Just a note on tier miles, it's a rolling period so even if you qualified you'd have some :)

Posting on behalf of a family member:

Upgrade given: Y - J
Upgrade location: Boarding gate
Route: PVG - DXB
Flight number: EK303
Type of ticket: Flex+
Date of travel: 10/08/19
Tier status: Gold
Tier miles to date: Unsure
Skywards miles balance: ~ 70k
Number of pax on the same PNR (Including OP): 1
Number of pax upgraded: 1

Its a strange one this one. Family member was told that the flight was overbooked initially but due to the typhoons in China (the incoming EK302 was diverted to Japan), many cancelled or changed their dates meaning no OP Ups at check-in. Lo and behold when boarding [on the just arrived EK304], the beeper made the noise and a business class seat was secured.

Not too strange. op-ups rarely occur at check-in and often depend on the final numbers which are only known when check-in closes and no-shows are confirmed

I'm on a flex + JNB to DPS, would it increase my chances if I don't do OLCI and check-in at airport?
