Changing the date on a ticket that was upgraded with miles

Hi folks,

If you need to change the date on a ticket that was upgraded with miles (e.g. from J to F), do they refund the miles, charge you the change fee + fare difference and upgrade it if there is availability? Or do they do what QR does where they check the availability for the upgrade and change the date for you without charging you a dime (This was based on an experience back in 2016).

Your input would appreciated.

Cheers & happy travels!

Probably depends on the Fare Rules for the ticket, same as QR.

Give us a clue then.

Is it a Special, Saver, Flex or Flex Plus ticket? Was it purchased from EK or from an agent? Where is it from/to? Is there only one traveller on the PNR or multiple? What does Manage My Booking say? Anything else that might help people answer your question with a chance of being accurate?

Cool enough?

Sure. It is a J saver ticket that was purchased from Emirates directly. Ticket is LHR-DXB-SIN. I managed to upgrade only one leg to F using miles (DXB to SIN). When I try to change the date through manage my booking, I get an error message asking me to contact the Emirates office. There is only one passenger on the PNR. I want to change the date for the DXB to SIN leg because I want to hang out in DXB for a couple of days.

I hope this answers your question and thanks again for your help.

They will cancel the upgrade, do a date change in J to a saver J on the new date (with a fee) then upgrade again to F

I'm not sure about that, BUT you need Z (F Upgrade) to be available on the new date, and they'll charge the J Saver change fee. Guess it depends a bit on how the agent does it, there seems to be an automatic system (which might cancel and refund) and a manual way, where the agent can just amend the date in the existing segment of the PNR

Well you said they'd cancel the upgrade, which implies a refund of miles, I don't think that would typically happen.

That is the process, now if an agent does a Z to Z change over then are trying to be efficient and or helpful.

Just came from a HKG - KWI flight on a Flex Plus ticket that was upgraded using miles. I changed my flight dates and was not charged a dime (based on my ticket) and for the miles they refunded my miles, changed the ticket, then again upgraded me to business via my miles.

All this was done through EK's contact center in HKG. Just contact EK's call center and they should sort this out. Hope this helps.
