Single flight prices

I'm looking to take economy singles ex eu to SYD with a one night stopover in dxb. Naturally it's pricing up flex with prices only a shade below returns. I have no way of planning the return. Any tips on getting the price a bit more reasonable?

Depending how cheap you can get to TUN or CAI, then buy a OW EK (or QF on Emirates metal via DUB) ticket CAI/SYD . You can see the fares and rules easily on ITX Matrix. If no stop allowed in DUB, then reserve a long connection (up to 24 hrs) thus having your night in Dubai.

Buy a Flex and change the return later, book the return for as late a date as possible. The change fee will be cheaper than than two one-ways.

Any reason you have suggested a TUN departure? I am now working in Tunisia for the next six to 12 months. A flight from here to SYD is actually working out the same price as ex UK with less miles accrued. I am wondering if my account gives me a true "local price" or not when I am searching for flights...

From TUN the fares are good. As you are there, then food for you.Check on it matrix as well as onlonr with emirates. What you see on those sites, you should be able to ticket.Look at the baggage allowance too.

I've had a play about with it, Y prices are pretty much the same as ex UK but I have hit the jackpot with J. TUN -SYD is 2750, on the same dates its 3996 ex UK.

However, tier miles for a J ticket from TUN earns the same miles as Y Flex plus ex UK and 5,500 less than the equivalent ex UK J. Still a significant saving.
