It would be interesting to know how one gets a ‘profile’. It may have even to do with regular J travel. And certainly when you are Gold you appear on the purser’s tablet. Any of the regulars have any idea. By the way, look at the difference between J Flex+ and F Saver fares. Depending on the routes you fly you may find that the difference is quite manageable and suddenly the points for a J to F upgrade seem quite expensive. I flew Y recently for the first time in 6 years. It was pretty awful, but only when you know how the other 10% live.... Hope to return to the front / upper deck soon, but we need a bit of extra for a different project. But... the current price difference between J Flex and F saver is unfortunately 3x (USD 3500 vs USD 9600) one way... it's a very F-heavy route. Equivalent of 166,000 points at 1.2cpm. Guess I'll have to make an impression on this one sector I'm in F :) As for the profile, I do a lot of EK J travel but have only recently started crediting to EK as I've maxed out my status on AS and have lesser need for AS miles now that I don't live in HNL anymore :-/ FYI I've taken my profile questions and some of the above to another thread to avoid going OT. |
DXB J lounge (B)
I can report that the dominant red wine is the 2013 Grgich Hill Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) - tastes great, lots of fruit but nice structure (tannin & acid). There's a few Cairossa, Balestard La Tonnelle 2009 and Chateau Olivier around as well. I did see one bottle of Heidi Barrett's La Sirena (an F wine) in the A (J) lounge as well. Very ripe, not my style. |
Any insight into what wines are currently offered in the DXB F lounges? Any hidden gems to ask for? |
I'm in the B F lounge now. It's "The Gypsy" and "Clos Du Marquis (2015)".

Any other wines hidden from public view? At least they're not poisoning people with that manky Pharaoh Moans 2015... |

Not sure - I asked for a wine list, but they didn't have one. So, I asked what they had, and those were the 2 options.

Ask them if there are some "other ones or single bottles". Usually returns some additional, ex F cabin ones! Cheers |
Certain routes in J/F (especially to and from the EU) have a note at the end of the wine list that says something to the effect of: ’We may have alternatives on board which have been loaded but are not listed here’ I’ve only had success once but I got a Veuve Cliquot Rosé option. |
Clos De Marquis 07 and 05 at the J (B) lounge as well, Western/Middle Eastern section. 05 was extremely tight and not memorable, but might have been better in a day.

You can rummage around the whole lot - problem is of course the temperature, so only recommended if you have some time to kill before a flight. Still a Vega Sicilia 2008 sitting in there which looks unloved...! |
