Upgrading Two Cabin Classes

Has anyone ever upgraded two classes either by Op-Up or through a combination of paid/miles?

A friend of mine (a humble blue) got upgraded from Y to F. He was upgraded to J at the gate. During the flight a cabin crew spilt a tray of drinks on him and they therefore moved him to first. This was on an a380 so he made the most of it.

A second friend arrived at the gate after closing. They let him on after he protested but as there were no more seats left he was upgraded to J. When he got to his seat there was another guy there. The guy said he had a first class ticket but wanted to sit next to his friend who was in J so they swapped tickets and my friend got the F seat. All this just for turning up late at the gate.

Ok these aren't technically upgrades to F from Y but it goes to show it can happen.

Yes, op up to J, then miles onboard upgrade to F.

Happened on the day I was supposed to hit Gold(miles flown but not credited), but was denied lounge entry because the op up boarding pass had no lounge pass.

Having performed one mileage upgrade, even though page may have suggestions to upgrade, I think you will simply find that it cannot be done

I've had a couple situations (a few years ago) of Y to J upgrade with miles then op-up at gate.

Also some years ago, was twice op-up'd J to Y on an award ticket

Once also double-upgraded with miles on board from Y to F (tried to upgrade to J but it was full)

More recently, I received an op up paid J to F. I had upgraded my wife from Y to J using miles a few days prior, but the gate staff wouldn't either op up her or let me upgrade her once more with miles. (had to decline the op up)

I suspect that the rules (and the IT to enforce them) are stricter now.

On board yes. I have upgraded using miles online. Then upon boarding asked for another upgrade. The difference was at the saver level. They had a problem with the tablet so ended up doing a manual deduction and got a paper note. The miles got deducted three days later from my account.

Damn... I read the original but didn't pay enough attention.

I stumbled across a "bug" in the BA system a few years back and posted a question about it. I got a load of PM's berating me and asking me to remove my post. If they'd asked nicely, I might have complied

Friend of mine got an op up Y-J from DXB to LGW last week. He further upgraded to F onboard with miles and was told it would be 39k miles. He was subsequently very surprised to get an email halfway through the flight that 96.5k miles had been deducted instead.

The purser apparently told him that the IT system now automatically deducts the Y-J miles in addition to the J-F miles but in principle there is no formal rule against using miles to upgrade an op up. He wrote to Skywards and the additional miles deducted were refunded within a day.

I have experienced it several times in the past - miles upgrade to J and then op-up to F, though not in the past 1 year or so as op-ups have been few after I dropped status to Gold.
