Bag sizers at DXB

I'm flying in J out of DXB in a few months and would like to use my favorite small duffel as a carry on. I'll have no problem keeping it under 7 kg, but it's slightly thicker than 8". Do agents enforce size pretty strictly or is ther a chance I can sneak it on?

Hi,

In my experience, they are more likely to pull out the weight checker than the sizer, but YMMV.

In my experience at outstations they randomly pull bags that look heavy, in DXB they weigh. Generally you should be fine. I always travel with 2 carry-ons which weigh around 15kg together. In Y

Check something in. You know it makes sense.

Meh. It takes too long. And if I want to shower in DXB.... The one is a very tiny laptop bag so it's more like 1 carry-on.

I fly to/through there at least once a month and have never had a carry on weighed checking in or transiting through DXB (I am gold so check in at J desks even when flying Y). My last flight in J I had a full backpack a large purse and a large dress garment bag and had no issues.

As others have said- if it looks like you are struggling with it, they may ask to weigh it...if you treat it like it is light they will probably let it go.

I saw a weird situation in DXB. Checked in and went to the immigration and security and just before going in, the EK staff were weighing hand luggage. Why would they do this when people have already checked in their luggage? Wouldn't it make more sense to do it at check in so people could transfer stuff over?

I am not really sure what they would do if your bag was overweight.

This has been the case for a long time, and people who have mobile BPs can bypass the check-in desks so this is the best place to enforce hand baggage rules. They make you go back to the counter and check in the bag.

Thanks for the insight, everyone! I think I'll take my chances with the duffel.
