Lost property not able to be returned to UK

I recently left a jacket in the Business class lounge, Victoria airport Seychelles.(SEZ) Emirates airline have told me they have it in their possession but apparently they are not able to return it to the UK due to 'Customs Restrictions. I can't believe that lost property is not able to be returned to owner. Has anyone any experience of this.

Is it possible to have someone you know collect the jacket and post it to you? There may be some laws concerning this, although I do not know at all, or it could be airline policy for some reason.

Good luck getting it returned.

Safe travels.

There was a thread on this very recently, did you try a search before posting?

EK recently fedexed an item to the UK to return it to the owner, because they couldn't send it on one of their aircraft due to aforementioned restrictions.

Due to UK local custom policies & Security, we are unable to forward found items to UK destinations (Birmingham, Manchester, New Castle, London Gatwick, London Heathrow, Glasgow) on an Emirates Flight.

I've had lost property send from abroad to the UK before, I just had to pay for shipping. The customs declaration just said personal possessions and no issue.

You can pay FedEx to pick it up for you as long as you have the pickup address details, package dimensions and weight. Without a FedEx account it won't be cheap though.

In the commercial invoice simply state that as recipient you will pick up the tax tab.

Edit: Then email the FedEx PDF paperwork to Emirates.

Ask if it's possible to send it to their outstations in the UK rather than to your place. Not sure if this will work for the UK but few years ago EK did just that with my sunglasses from SIN to MEL where they stayed for few months until I was departing from MEL- found them waiting for me at the service desk.
