Update!

EK have substituted an aircraft on one leg which has no first class. (Really)

Not so much as an offer of a different flight or talk of refund.

Call them up. Clearly this is the Dxb Cpt leg which is really worth having suites over the 777 for 9 plus hours.

There are 3 daily DXB / CPT flights, so maybe you can substitute (assuming the connection works). F on that sector is indeed pretty 'useful', the F suites are a big step up from the 'slopey' J seats.

As m3red says, phone them up, if you are flexible they should hopefully put you on a flight with F. Had it with myself once and got the flight changed with no problems.

It's a GLA-DXB leg for my elderly parents. I'm not going to change their itinerary as it's two weeks before departure.

Can they claim tier miles for the ticketed class I booked for them?

Yes they should automatically receive them.
you sure about not changing? Because EK will switch them no problem

Which flight are they on? The 26 or 28?

This is going to happen more frequently on 26/28 this year. I had my suspicions a few months ago and after speaking with some crew, and now seeing this, Its all starting to fall into place. My bet it is because EY offer 2 class on their (shoddy, older) 330s out of Edinburgh.

Crew don't know much...if there was F demand they'd put it on.

I would take the reimbursement of 75% of the GLA-DXB leg. if a simple r/t ticket, should be about 15% of total fare paid. I would suspect that to be worth more than the miles difference

Many CC members can be interesting to chat to, but you're right ..... they do have a tendency to waffle on about stuff they don't know.

Detached unemotional number-crunchers back at the bunker call the shots wrt configs and a/c type allocations.

Exactly! It's the accountants choosing the planes.

IMHO regular forum members know more about what's happening on EK than most of the crew I have spoken to *

The crew are usually clueless and its interesting to see the reaction when I tell them some of the latest info from this forum! In fact I have been asked a few times if I work for EK.:D

*Unless they also read the forum.;)
