Should I upgrade?

I currently have 52,000 miles and I am about to fly business class GLA-DXB-HKG return and saw that it would cost me 50,000 miles to upgrade to First class for one leg.

The question is, is it worth using all my miles and if so, which leg is best to experience first?

I am on the early afternoon GLA flight and then 3am flight to HKG returning on the 6pm flight out of HKG and then early morning flight to GLA.

Any thoughts/opinions welcome?

Best to choose a flight on the 380 and the longest of your flights so as to benefit from the shower as well as the other niceties! Have fun!
Also biz is great if you choose not to upgrade and save your miles.

DXB-HKG, for the FCL in DXB, as well as A380 to HKG rather than the (perfectly adequate) 77W from GLA.

Is it worth it? Depends on what you value a Skywards mile at, if you're looking at it from a cash point of view and what else you were going to use the miles for. A J-F upgrade on DXB-HKG gives decent value - and you should get the car in HKG which you won't do in J.

Personally, I think it's worth it, if only for the shower, onboard bar and FCL at DXB.

I would personally go for the A380 flight too. I couldn't stop grinning to myself in the shower

I was in the same quandry a few months back and am swaying at the moment whether to use miles for a one leg upgrade on my return from PEK to GLA (9000 short for the full return). But then thinking about the benefits of the new cash+miles for future travel. Life is too complicated at times

Sure you'll enjoy whatever you decide.

the HKG to DXB flight is a 9 hour flight so if I were to upgrade any leg it would be that one.

Your flight at 3:00am is the one that goes via BKK I believe. If that's correct, make sure you do any upgrade in advance, as airport or on board upgrades will only be issued for the single upcoming sector.

yes, the 384 goes via BKK but I would upgrade right through as you get the F lounge in DXB and then to sample F twice!

I done this same flight via BKK while heading back to DXB for early morning meeting (maximising holidays till last minute) and the BKK ground waiting was a bit annoying. I do remember that while waiting i regret why didnt upgraded to F. But got to save some miles... hard choices ! Enjoy!

Definitely the one from DXB to HKG. Two flights for the price of one

A380 incl showers is even better than any other aircraft EK flies

Also, F lounge access in DXB with it.
