Checking bags through

Flying from Dublin to Wellington at the end of this year. We arrive in Melbourne with EK and change to QF to Wellington. Will we be able to check bags the whole way through from Dublin?
I'm assuming the answer is yes but just wanting to check.

And then less likely, later in the trip we fly Melbourne to KL on EK and then on to Langkawi with MH. This is a seperate ticket. Any chance we can check bags through here?
We have a 6 hour layover in case we have to claim bags and re check them.

Final question: do you get amenity kits in First on all flights or just night flights?

Thanks for any info

Your first trip, EK TO QF, Yes, no problem

Not sure about your 2nd trip. KL to EK might be tricky. Up to the KL agent

Amenity Kits only given on night flights and all long hauls but I know in F, if you ask they will usually have some on board to give (usually on a 380 they will have them, not as likely on a 77W if it's not a red eye or long haul)

Thank you, that is very helpful.

Re night flights - we seem to have a mixture. Out of curiosity, is DXB - MEL a night flight? Departs 10.15 and arrives 23.35 Dubai time but 06.35 MEL time?

If the MH sector an EK codeshare? You're really at the mercy of the check-in agent at MEL, but it is technically possible. You should be prepared to pick up at KUL though if they decline to through check you. You'll have much better luck if the onward is an EK codeshare though!

DXB-MEL is an ULH flight, so it is both day and night. If you go to the EK website it should show you the meals served and you can infer the service progression from there: usually lunch then dinner, iirc. They will adjust the early part of the flight to MEL time and then the latter part to DXB time, if that makes sense.

OP is flying MEL-KUL-LGK so through-checking will be dependant on the EK agent in MEL and I think it is possible, though not guaranteed, considering the EK-MH partnership now.

So, I have just checked and it is indeed a code share with EK. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for the explanation, I'll have a look at that.

DXB-AUSTRALIA are all long hauls just like DXB-USA so you will get a kit, even if you depart in the AM

I have a similar question, thought it includes BA, QF, and EK.

If I'm flying JFK-LHR on BA connecting to LHR-DXB on QF, which is all on one ticket, then connecting to EK for DXB-HYD which is a separte ticket, what are the chances that BA at JFK will be able to check it all the way through to HYD?

Able? Yes.

Willing? Extremely unlikely.

Yes they are all F, though the JFK-LHR-DXB is using miles (Avios), DXB-HYD is paid F.
Im hoping they will! I really don't want to have to clear immigration and what not just to pick up my bags and re check them in.

They won't - BA's policy is not to through check baggage on separate tickets to non-OW or codeshare partners.

S.R will have to reclaim baggage at DXB T1 and then go to T3 to check in, which will be a little bit of a hassle, but perfectly doable, if his connection time is sufficient!

I recently flew MH from LGK to KUL, before connecting on a separate ticket to DXB with EK.

I very politely asked the agent in LGK if he could check my bag through to DXB and he was quite happy to do so. He apologized that he was unable to issue a boarding pass for the EK flight though.

On arrival in KUL, I went to the EK Lounge and asked if they could check if everything was okay with my bag. The guy did a lot of tapping, telling me he was making sure that the bag would get transferred. He printed me a boarding pass (although I already had a mobile one) and my bag was one of the first off in DXB.

As others have said though, I'm sure it will ultimately be down to the discretion of the agent when it's separate tickets.

technically you can check every bag to every destination with every carrier (even with carriers that do not have a baggage agreement with the airline). a friend of mine working at check-in gave me a tip, to put the other segment(s) as a ghost segment in the "first" booking so it's easier for the agent to check bags to final destination. (not sure if an airline call center can/will do that if you call)

Well in the case that I am not able to convince them to check it through for me, and have to pick up my bags and recheck etc, doesn't QF fly into T3 at DXB? So it should be as easy as clearing immigration, picking up my bags, then going right to EK check in?
