Re routing help

I am flying Gatwick to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.

The inbound is an hour late at the moment ek011.

Given its an a380 I suspect they won't make much of this up.

The snag is I only have 1:30 at Dubai to catch the connection.

I have to get to kl for my sons birthday age 6 . The kids are with mum ( we are separated ) and she flies home so this is the one family birthday day.

I don't know how tight a connection in Dubai is possible. If I miss it the next flight gets me in late that night. I assume if I make it my bags won't ?

I guess a re route via say Singapore and a hopper up is possible ?

I am in business to Dubai and first to kl.

Any guidance ?

Thank you

I wouldn't worry, 1hr 20 min at LGW is enough to turn around the A380. Worst case it will take off 10-15 min late and still could easily land in DXB on schedule.

The 8PM arrival time into DXB isn't problematic, it's probably around the quiet periods.

The A380 can make up surprising amounts of time - the main factor will be weather rather than a/c type (and Eurocontrol for EK12).

You shouldn't worry unless it's an hour or so late in which case you have less of a chance of the connection.

At DXB if you don't see someone with a sign with your onward flight somewhere between disembarking (they are usually in the terminal where the lower and upper deck disembarking areas merge) then run to the next gate as it means EK think you can make the connection.

If there is a person with a sign it means either you've already been offloaded and rebooked or they will cut the queue at security and escort you to the next flight.

Bags can easily make 45 min connections at DXB - 8pm is not the busiest time there.

It is highly unlikely EK will endorse you over to another carrier: you would have to press the point if that happens or ask for BKK or SIN. BKK has 3 flights arriving in the morning or lunchtime at BKK you could make.

Many thanks to you both.

Let's hope !

Will post from the air if it looking really bad on the connection.

Outbound showing 15 min later at the moment. Amazing how they can turn them round so fast !

It helps when you also own the ground handling agent!

FWIW I take EK12 quite regularly and it doesn't get off the RWY until 1020 anyway.

So ek11 landed 90 min late in the end but the etd of ek12 is 10:20 ( which does not seem long to handle a 380 inc fuel but we will see!

I'm showing 1040 for departure and 2040 for ETA so best case you're off the plane at 2050/2100 and you make the connection! Unfortunately no time to enjoy any F lounges in DXB but I appreciate you have much more important things to enjoy!

My web enquiry has just shown 10:40 as well which given the plane is here is now probably relatively accurate

As long as he drives it like it is stolen I hope to be ok. Thank you for looking.

The lounge here is lovely. I have only been to lhr lounges before. Beats ba hands down which is why I am not flying direct ( well that and a 1500 fare saving for a nicer experiance!)

Not sure about chicken sausages but they tasted just like and other sausage!

Best EK outstation lounge on the network imho, the only downside is the long walk to the A380 gate.

EK have a very vested interest in making sure they fill the plane up and break the speed limits because their entire operation is based upon connecting waves so I'm sure the captain will be going as fast as he possibly can!

At this point I would relax as you can do nothing about it either way - either there's no sign at DXB and you run like mad to the next gate or there's someone waiting to either rush you through or take a leisurely walk to rebooking. As you are in F I would certainly look to the BKK 10pm flight EK374 and a 1hr hop go KL ex-BKK if worst comes to worst.

Good to hear the result of these threads.

Did that make it around 1 hour 10 minutes between actual landing and scheduled departure to KUL? Time for a shower and a drink too. Impressive.
