upgrades to first as platinum

Does anyone have recent experience of getting waitlisted for Z ie first class seats as platinum?

I called last night and they wouldn't wait list me for a flight (to be fair it is 8th Feb) but want to snag two seats as soon as they become available as only one first seat is available now despite 0/8 bookings.

It would be nice to have a certificate like BA's or once a year when you can confirm upgrade seats (I think from memory they listed this as a benefit when they launched plat but pulled it). The massive difference in gold vs plat is certainly not reflected in the benefits.

Never been wait listed, but to be honest I have only once failed to get an upgrade to First with points once at check in and that was from LHR when the flight was totally full

Normally as a Plat you are at the top of the list for upgrade requests anyway and I know for a fact that a few times they have let me upgrade over Gold and Silver

Maybe it would be good to call them back and ask them to double check, I seem to remember once or twice being told there was no availability but as a plat they would see if they could get a seat for me and confirming by email a few minutes later.

How was your Man flight this week? I had an awesome crew in First from BHX on Monday

Both were good flights thanks - had a fair few drinks and suffered at work the next day. Was given a bottle of the ch certan de may 03 which was nice - the stags leap cask 05 was also stunning.

Flying to MAN on 8 April on ek17 - that the return from HND that I need to upgrade too. I booked F out J back as the F return was 4.8k each!

This is a strange question, and nothing to do with the topic of your threat so apologies, do you find the crews on flights to the UK are a little less attentive with service than on flights to Asia? For the past couple of flights now I have noticed that in J the cabin crew to the UK seem sometimes aloof and quite miserable compared to fights to the Far East.

I may just be imagining it, but i swear they dislike the UK sectors!

I agree - service is ok to the UK but Japan was the best I've had I think (roll on 29th Jan)

Most crew are happy when they go somewhere nice like MRU or CPT with a 24 stop. In fact I said this to my wife the other day and she agreed! Who wants to go to MAN? Even the brits don't!

You are not imagining it, most EK crew (anecdotally - but with a wide sample range) dislike UK sectors for a variety of reasons - not just because of the passenger profile but also the crew profile.

This is, of course, absolutely no excuse for crew to be unprofessional or surly, and for them to deliver anything less than what they are supposed to. I just think you will find it rarer for most of them to deliver more than what they are supposed to

This is especially prevalent in the J and Y cabins. F is slightly more insulated from this.

Maybe. Hope you get some sort of worthwhile gift (when it eventually comes )

On the other hand, it must be said that Emirates' track record - in recent times at least - is not too sparkling where 'improvements' are concerned !

Maybe they are going to raise the threshold up to 200k miles to try and reduce the number of Plats in the program

That would also not surprise me. I'm now on zero tier miles but in my year as gold I hit 170k. 200 would never happen and to be honest renewing plat probably won't either.

I have heard there are way too many plats and they want to cut the numbers back...

The one advantage with platinum is that even if you quit flying EK over the next year , you will still be only soft downgraded to gold.

I am now down to Silver ( soft downgrade as I did not fly EK for almost 9 months )and will hopefully get back to gold by April end .

If that's Skywards' philosophy, then it's no wonder they need a manager for the programme!

On the one hand they are expanding their route network to loads of new destinations and like to trumpet increasing passenger numbers, yet are unhappy with the absolute number of HVC pax?

Hahaha!

Just an update on this z was confirmed for both of us 5 days before the flight after being wait listed. Have the final leg on 8 April to Man but there are only 3 seats left so doubt I'll get hold of two as it looks like a sell out.

On the flip side first savers have made a comeback!
