Flying in F with a 1 year old
I plan on flying with my wife, 1 year old, and mother in law from YYZ-DXB-YYZ in EK F.
Will we have to buy a discounted seat for the baby or can he sit with us?
Also, for anyone who has flown with an infant in EK F, do you recommend taking a car seat, using their bassinet, or just sitting with the parents on our seat?

You will need to buy an infant ticket which will proobably cost 10% of the applicable adult cost - the infant will not get its own seat unless you pay for a child's fare
If you wish to use a car seat , make sure it is forward facing and complies with details on http://www.emirates.com/au/english/p...h_infants.aspx - I would suspect that you would need to purchase a seat for the infant in order to use it

Unless JL offers infant awards, 10% of the fare which JL is able to offer you ( plus taxes ) ; be aware that this may well be of the order of $2000

Awards issued for children and infants require the same mileage as those issued for adults.
So that's 135k JMB miles per person and you will need to account for 1081CAD pp for fuel surcharges/taxes and await 3 open Z seats to/from YYZ which is next to -if not completely impossible.

For a one way ticket CAD1958 plus CAD28.35 in taxes ( EK doesn't have surcharges on infants ) seems a better option and of course , less dependant on Z class since it would be booked in A or F

Still, he's planning on flying WITH his wife and MIL. That's 3 adult passengers. YYZ is so restricted in Z availability.

D'oh - indeed 1+1+1 = 3 -- I thought you were including the infant in the 3 ; even so , I would still suggest that mileage is not the best use for the infant if can indeed find 3 adult redemption seats

I do see lots of award space in F in April from YYZ-DXB through ExpertFlyer. Is that phantom space?
Fuel surcharges are $1k pp now? I have booked this award award a number of times and don't recall paying anywhere that amount.
Interesting that with fuel prices at multi-year lows that they haven't rolled back this fuel surcharge.

According to Matrix , they are CAD995.60 for an adult r/t YYZ-DXB
The availability shown by EF is flaky for EK , but if it shows that number of seats , probably there
Why roll back such a scam - EK doesn't even try to pretend it is a fuel surcharge
