Exit Row seat Availability

Exit Row seat Availability
Hi folks, So I am due to fly out of JFK tomorrow in the morning and just called EK to put in a request in the system for an exit row seat. The Agent told me all exit row seats are booked already …. is this normal
I thought exit row seats were 1st come 1st serve at check - in.

It's a misunderstanding. The exit seats are "not available" at this stage.
They are indeed released at check-in, mainly for security purposes (you have to be able physically to assist emergency evac).
Insist to have the request in your reservation. You can tell the agent that it's only a request, and that you are hoping for a no-show

the check-in do also block them previously,so it seems for the agt someone is already seated there

FCFS at airport check-in, has been the way for EK everywhere I've flown from using them.
