Emirates queue management - Dubai style

I've just experience the joys of Emirates (non) queue management in dubai for a recent Mumbai flight.

Firstly I had to make a mad dash to the gate after the display sign showed "Final Call" 20 minutes before the time on my boarding pass. This seemed to be a mistake so a red face from my exertions for nothing.

But the queue management was rally something else. Call for first and business passengers only led to a large scrum at the relevant queue, with quite a few people bu,ping and shoving past me. Seemed to be a lot of people for a relatively small business class section. I managed to view a few boarding cards as we queued for inspection at the gate and the main shovers were economy passengers. They got to the gate and I thought 'Ha, karma time, you'll be heading back out again" only to be a little surprised when they got let through.

Now I don't want to be too snobby about this, I've travelled economy lots of times delivering envious looks at the privileged few. But what is the point of calling first and business only if you then let anyone on the plane at that point? Why bother? Wish I'd stayed in the lounge for another 20 minutes now.....

(After all that the flight was pretty good, very nice wine at 9 in the morning!)

First and business class passengers in DXB on most gates have their boarding level, however, if u were in the transit (gate) level then you should have made yourself known to the staff then they board you straight away

I agree - They should simply reject anyone who tries to board too early. No idea why they don't already do this.

As an FT'er surely you would know that airlines allow priority check in / boarding / etc to higher tier members of their frequent flyer program?

Just wait until you make your return flight at Mumbai...

Then, it's not a queue management issue, but "skywards" parametering issue.
There are too many silver and gold, and silver has too many advantages.

We don't have access to the Emirates networks lounges. We only have access to the J class lounge in Dubai so I fail to see how we have "too many advantages," especially when we can not invite guests with us to join us in the lounge

Well, I was particularly thinking about the J lounge at DXB. It's no more a lounge, it's a railway station hall. Hardly a place to sit and eat, and people sleeping on seats, sometimes in tank-tops and flip-flops.

Silver can enjoy priority check-in, excess baggage, additional miles and onboard upgrade. That's not bad.
As for priority boarding, I'm OK as long as they are separated from FCL/Plat as in some outstations.

No longer than this morning, almost 10 Y pax passed running in front of me to board an outbound flight. As they had green tabs, I thought the gate agent would reject them, but as he let them through after checking thoroughly the BP, I understood they were skywards.
No real trouble, but, that's clearly not a premium boarding ...
God, prevent us from americanization ...

I can barely understand these passengers! It's not like the plane will depart without them if they don't rush to boarding the aircraft

They really screw up my boarding experience when I fly F/J class and the agent calls "F/J passengers boarding only." Can't they wait for their turn? Why be in such a rush when it's not your turn yet to board the aircraft?

Is that what they say though?

It used to be F/J, Gold and Silver. In this case, they've as much right as you to be boarding.

They are probably aware of that.

Maybe they have another reason, like wanting to guarantee sufficient overhead storage space in the vicinity of their seat.

Well, I'd guess their reasons to want to be first on board are much the same as yours ...
