Extra Flight Operations
Quite often I see on EK Source that Emirates will operate extra flights, usually to Jeddah but recently to a lot of places.(Barcelona, Mauritius, Kuwait)
Maybe a stupid question, but what is it? Is it just an extra flight? Are these flights published or is there just extra demand and they put on an extra flight?
Can somebody fill me in with details?

Sometimes, due to special demand or holidays, they add an extra flight. Other times, it's a ferry flight or extra aircraft to deal with IROPs.
The IROP flights usually have a 4 digit flight number.
