Last month I got my Y class ticket KWI - KUL - KWI for 189 KWD with 4,000 tier miles.

Looking at the same fare/destination again, it is still the same price, except that instead of earning 4,000 tier miles for the flight I earn 2,800 tier miles for booking with the lowest fare.

That sounds pretty much like what I was expecting.

The lowest prices are aimed at the once a year EK passengers who don't care about the miles. They won't notice any difference.

here something regarding the booking classes...

Economy
Special: X/V
Saver: Q/L/T
Flex: U/B/M/W
Flex Plus: R/E/Y

Business
Special: O
Saver: O/I
Flex: C
Flex Plus: J

First
Flex: A
Flex Plus: F

Farebase indicator:
F=Flex Plus
S= Flex
P = Saver
R = Special

I.e: U....PAE1 = Saver (always 4th from right)
A business O class fare could be a special or a saver.

I class can be either saver or flex depending on the route

kuroko Feb 12, 2015 3:21 am

Sure? Even a SYDAKL is a flex, also DXBKWI etc.

SYD-AKL I class seems to be a saver fare - ( ITASSAU1 )

but when in booking engine it seems to list it as a Flex

I just like EK's take on a "working" spinner - the planes fly around...!

eternaltransit Feb 12, 2015 4:02 am

IT is still glitchy - if you book a First Flex, it shows in Tier Miles earning "Saver earnings" with a strange first class bonus as well as Fare Type "Saver". If you book a First Flex Plus it has the proper fare type "Flex Plus" Displayed, as well as Flex Plus earnings but a reduced First Class bonus to bring mileage earning in line with the other First fare.

Oh well...firstclassproblems?

for me the site doesn't work in Chrome browser at all, just a blank site. Works in Safari though. Right now it shows Skywards Earnings "not available" :rolleyes:

hm. strange. I mean as per farebase (and the miles are credited as per fare base) IEEESAU1 = Flex

I guess we'll see it after the first flight. Anyway a lot will again change in the next few days/weeks.

I'm a bit confuddled here.

Previously my e-ticket says 'Skywards Flex' in the additional information bit - am I to disregard what this says?

Under my flight it now says 'Business Class (Saver)' but I purchased this ticket several months ago, before the changes.

I also upgraded one sector of my upcoming flight to first class via MMB - again I didnt think you could upgrade saver tickets until the actual day of travel?

So am I a saver or a flex or what?!!

Thanks.

You are covered under the old rules (new earnings/upgrade rates apply only to new bookings) - the e-ticket you have is the definitive contract you have with EK. If they try and shortchange you, push with customer affairs.

RichL Feb 12, 2015 4:32 am

Its not the being shortchanged bit, its them sending me an email in a couple of days and saying the first class upgrade that I had bagged will no longer be honoured (for example)

everything stays the same, you can double check it yourself, the miles to be earned are exactly the same, just your then flex ticket is now a saver under the new name rules but behind the scene it's still what it was before the change.
