upgrade e mails

Do these emails offered upgrades by money or miles come out at a certain time?
I'm 16 days out from a trip

I think it's safe to say that statistically there's more likelihood of you not getting an email than there is.

As regards timing ....no precise pattern AFAIK. But others may be able to provide more info.

Only one data point, from just over 3 months ago, and the emails were sent less than 3 days before I flew.

This was for cash upgrades on both legs of a trip.

Upgrade email

Got one from MRU to DXB 3 days prior to the flight.

$350 each for all 4 of us.

Would do it to SFO, my next leg but not for a mere 6 hour trip.

But for DXB-SFO expect that figure to be multiplied by 4-5, that's if anything materialises. For 350 on a 6 hour flight that sounds like a bargain.

I quite agree. Just a tad shorter than a DXB-CDG flight and most folks might have taken the upgrade...

Looking at the EK website, it is quoted as a 6h50min flight. That's about 7 hours. That is a fantastic deal to pass up! Same flight time as DXB-LHR.

A good deal indeed. I haven't heard of offers at that price for a long time. Last time I got a good one was about 2 years ago for KUL-DXB at EUR328. Yet I think it depends more on the route despite very similar flying time. I got a few of those offers last last year always for FRA-DXB and once for DXB-FRA. All of them came in 3 days prior to departure.

FRA-DXB was always offered for EUR538 and DXB-FRA for AED2569.

Not worth taking it for those 6hr-ish sectors in my opinion.

I got my e-mail for cash upgrade, which excludes lounge access and chauffeur service.. I have enough miles in my account to get upgraded so the e-mail is useless to me.

It is not useless if you want to be ensured on being able to travel in business class and depending on the value of the miles which would be used ( if available )

DXB-SFO was 1000 for me. I took it. I'd imagine that EK is usually able to sell most if not all the premium class seats on this route at published fares, so I was surprised to get an offer for as low as 1000, but maybe EK has a hard time selling out their premium cabin on New Years Eve.

I got COK-DXB (4.5 hours) for 350. I hesitated a bit longer before accepting this one, but in the end I did because it was worth it to be accommodated in business class for the entire (long) journey from Cochin to San Francisco.
