Miles Upgrade
Sorry for another upgrade question!
i am flying LHR-DXB-BKK on thursday and want to upgrade from j to f using miles on the DXB-BKK sector.
There is no z availability showing and I have an alert on expertflyer.
If nothing changes before flight time can i get the upgrade at the ticketing desk or checkin desk at heathrow if there is free seats (only showing 6/14 now).
I am currently blue but will be gold by the end of this trip (have onward flights after BKK)!

If they need to op up they may not open up although they'd rather let u use miles than give a free j to f op up.

I'm not 100% sure that's correct - in my experience (flying from less 'developed' outstations) I've only been able to upgrade with miles when connecting in DXB, and even then I've sometimes struggled if Y is oversold.
