Emirates 772 or 380?

Hello all, I hope this is the right to place to ask this kind of question!!

I'm planning to book Award ticket from DFW to SKT (Pakistan) on Dec 8th. I have two options but i need opinion from you all!! This would be my first time flying Emirates business class but i did fly in A380 from London to DXB before in economy.

From dfw to dxb the plane EK use is b772 which mean no flat bed for 15 hr flight. On sunday i get off from work 8 AM (overnight job) so i have 4 hours to get ready for the flight with no bed rest.

My second option is i did find flights from LAX (A380)to SKT on sunday but i need to buy revenue ticket from DFW TO LAX which is about 85 $. I wont have any lagguge with me bcz my sister is flying 3 days early so she will take all my stuff and that day i can take off early from work to catch 6am flight from dfw to lax and then lax to dxb at 4pm then i will have 8 hr stop in dxb so plenty of time to catch up with sleep!!

I want to experience fully EK business class so which flight should i take?

thx

380 has the better business class product and experience. Also, you may be eligible for Dubai Connect - so you should be able to get some sleep there.

Zol Nov 29, 2013 2:04 am

DFW - DXB is a lie-flat bed product. It's the 777-200LR and not just a 772

That's debatable. I'd get the direct 772 - it is also new j ie lie flats, I prefer them to the a380. Only difference is the bar.

jackiedada Nov 29, 2013 3:47 am

I'd go for the A380 any day, especially for the 3rd longest flight in the world. Much quieter, great to just stretch out in the lounge anytime, fully flat bed, and then there is someone always manning the lounge if you ever want anything to eat or drink. And they have ice cream too!

I'd avoid the 777 altogether.

Catusa Nov 29, 2013 4:19 am

The last couple of EK flts they didn't have ice cream and the FA told me they stopped carrying it. Was she wrong?

The thing I don't like about the 380 is the long time it takes to get served meals. On my last flight they turned the lights on 2 1/2 hrs before landing to prepare for serving breakfast and it took them a good hour to get me the meal I had ordered over an hour before..

I do like the on-board lounge on the 380 though.

However, flying out of your hometown directly has the advantage of the chauffeur drive and you wouldn't have concerns regarding misconnecting from a separate revenue ticket.

zainman Nov 29, 2013 5:37 am

go for the A380, avoid 777 as others have also recommended.

Why would you bother flying to la if you can fly from Dallas

To fly on an A380.

I'm sure a lot of us here have made some choices that the non-FT world would think strange.

New York for an A380 flight would seem more logical though as it's more in the "right" direction.

I'd probably fly from la to Dallas get the 777 :D

Pandor Nov 29, 2013 7:40 am

The in-flight service on the 777 in Business is better than on the A380 owing to a reduced number of business class seats on the 777 - 42 as opposed to 76 on the A380. It has been reported here by many that they prefer the 777 bed to the A380 bed. Unless you plan on spending considerable amount of time in the bar on the A380, I would recommend you fly from Dallas to Dubai non-stop.

Emirates 772 or 380?

Thank you all for the response!! I believe 772LR does not have flat bed. My friend flew last month n that's what he said. Also don't care about the a380 bar bcz I don't drink at all. Few more responses I will make up my mind!!

diontd Nov 29, 2013 12:33 pm

I would prefer the 77L J seat. Wider, service better, just lacking the bar and flat bed

678flyer Nov 29, 2013 1:17 pm

I prefer the 77L seat. 380 seats are cramped and while they lie flat, you can sleep well only if you do not roll at all when sleeping. There is also no room to fold your legs in a bit.

Your friend is wrong.

ukdoctor Nov 29, 2013 8:16 pm

I absolutely hate the 380 in J. I've only been okay with it if I get a K seat (23K if possible) but I can't do that when I'm travelling with mrsukdoctor. The only choice is E and F which are not great.

The design is atrocious and I suspect that most of those who prefer the 380 in J are vertically challenged. I do not think anyone over 6' tall would be able to feel comfortable on the 380

I dont mind the seat width on the 380 ,I think its okay unless you are obese. It just feels that you are in a coffin with not much of personal space. No window options if you are travelling as a couple as well.

Though the service on the 380 in J is better than before its not great compared to the 777(too mechanical and slow as compared to the 777)

The marathon walk to the toilets in the rear ( especially of you are sitting in the forward section ) means that I never choose the 380 if possible.

The only advantage of the 380 in J is the direct aisle access as you don't have to step over the passenger next to you) and the bar.

There is one in the front too....

The toilets just in front of j are for f only.

When I first flew j on the 380 you could use it and 7k was my seat of choice. Now they make you go all the way to the back. Not great really.

whimike Nov 30, 2013 12:02 am

Count me in as one that won't relocate to get a 380 over a 777. I like the 777 J seat and sleep very well in it.

waqarsarwar Nov 30, 2013 12:32 am

I think I will go with 772lr... Wish I had enough miles for first class then probably 380!!!

They might let you use the forwards toilet (depends on the crew). However the allocated toilets are 4 at the back. ( Have a look at the toilet occupancy signs on the roof )

LE4603 Nov 30, 2013 8:17 am

When I ever have a choice, I go for the 777 over the 380. I don't care about the bar, and on average have had better service on the 777. Get yourself a window seat and its quite private.

But specific to the OP's question, because in reality there isn't much in it between both planes, I would go with the most convenient time for the OP (which in this case appears to be the 777, but I would say the same if it appeared to be the 380)

Im sure what your friend meant, was that they are not FULLY lie-flat (i.e. 180 degrees). The 777-200LR's Business Class seat is Angled-Lie-Flat seat. But it's lie flat. Some people prefer it this way, others don't.

Go for the direct flight.. and if you want to fly the a380 -as someone else suggested- try finding tickets from New York..

waqarsarwar Dec 1, 2013 10:42 pm

What about first class on 772LR or A380!!! My sister is letting my borrow her Alaska Airlines miles and i do see avalaibility from DFW 777 and LAX 380... so which one should i pick for first class travel? The bar and spa on 380 do look nice!!!

in first there are a few subtle differences but again I'd take the direct but certainly be more tempted to fly for the A380 - the showers for such a long flight are pretty amazing.

Be careful you don't miss the flight if you buy a cheap connection you won't be covered by EK.

A380 all the way... The showers are not to be missed, and neither the bar/ social area at the back...

Likewise, to pour myself a top up rather than wait for the attendant.

I've never waited more than about 5 seconds from pressing the call bell!

You must have been desperate!

Though i hate the A380 in J, Its totally different in F. You have the showers and can also go to the J bar if you want to.

380 in F is fantastic^^^

Yes that awkward moment when the hostess brings you the dom and first class flute to drink so everyone knows you are a first pax

I just use the boarding pass as a name-tag on my breast pocket. Is that not proper form? :p

And your hair should be wet as well (just after a shower in the 380):D

Northumberland Lady Dec 3, 2013 1:15 am

Or wear a shower cap ;0)

ukdoctor Dec 3, 2013 3:25 am

Or wear the F slippers to the bar :D

PS: I find it gross when people from F come to the J bar wearing pajamas and slippers.
I understand that they are trying to be comfortable but I'm sure you wouldn't go to a hotel bar wearing the hotel slippers. Though the number of people wearing hotel slippers for breakfast in hotels is steadily increasing , I still have not seen anyone wearing it for lunch/ dinner /bar:D
