And I assume with these availabilities the upgrades can be booked at any time.
You're looking at the wrong information as neither of the flights you mention currently has upgrade availability to J.

You need Saver Reward Fares to be available if checking via Emirates website, or "D" Class availability if checking via Expert Flyer.

Upgrades can be booked at any time but availability can also change at any time so snap them up as soon as you can.

Okay thanks.

If I'm reading correctly, on the same day there are currently D class availability on flights EK3 and EK5.

So next time, I book a holiday, I should look at Expertflyer and pick the flights that have the D class availability

This is really confusing.

EK5 that I am flying on 5 November has 7 available reward seats.

Here is the picture.

Sorry to be a pain.

I'm not sure what's confusing - you seem to have got the hang of it - the reward seats you mention show as available on the Emirates site as well, confirming what you see on EF.

I first check on expertflyer and see if there is an upgrade available.I then book tickets online and then try upgrading online and then call them if I'm not able to upgrade online.

Upgrade with miles

Hi, this is my first post.
I have a flex Y from BCN to DXB on 9 Oct, and want to upgrade to J. When I go to redeem miles and upgrade (on Skywards), it shows an upgrade is available. When I click on upgrade it takes me to manage my booking, and if I select upgrade with miles, it shows - no miles upgrade available. Any advice?

Doctor - If the upgrades are available, would I only have access to those upgrades if I had an Economy flex ticket? Because at the moment I have the cheapest saver tickets hence why I can't upgrade.

Just trying to understand how this all works, so next time I am clued up.

Till recently you could upgrade to the higher class from either a flex or a saver ticket. It was just that upgrading the saver needed around 30% extra miles compared to an equivalent flex ticket. However they have changed the rules recently and there are some saver tickets that cannot be upgraded. (Though they can still be done on check in if available AFAIK).

Why don't you call EK and check.?

I defintely will but for current flights booked I can't upgrade due to the ticket I have.

But for next time, I will take this into consideration.

Thank you so much for your help.

expertflyer is showing no upgrade availability on 9 Oct. Always worth giving EK a call though. I've had a similar situation on EK website before. Ironically, it seems a third party website is more accurate in some cases.
