Upgrade availability grrrr

Ok so I mainly buy j, I have a load if skywards points over 300,000 between my wife and I.

I want a j flight man to dxb on 27 dec and return probably in the summer. Zero inventory available.

How easy is it to wait list as a gold and how often do they come good? I usually pay for j but at over 3k per ticket for a short flight that I paid 1800 for last year I just refuse....

I've been able to successfully wait list myself a couple of times - supposedly wait listing is available to Golds and Plats, but occasionally I have been refused also. The idea is to keep trying until you meet with success/ get frustrated/ hit a wall.

Once wait listed, my experience has been that if they have unsold seats in J, EK will confirm the wait list 3-4 days before the departure date. See this thread for more info.

If not minding a stop , there are plenty of business class options from MAN-DXB for GBP1600-GBP1800 on Turkish, Swiss, Lufthansa and Air France rather than gambling on upgrade waitlists

I would've thought at that time of year there will be minimal upgrade availability even less so than normal. I've managed to be waitlisted once before and got the upgrade the day after (this was 3 months before the flight) but every other time I've tried I've been told it's not available.

Ya. If they can't do it in your country, call DXB - but that anyway gets routed to the India call center who aren't all that proficient/ helpful...

I haven't been able to find any upgrades available for a trip i'm taking in 2 weeks... (SYD-DXB-CDG, LHR-DXB-SYD) or anything on a short trip in Y (SYD-CHC return) at the end of October either.

I'm going to try and jump on this elusive waitlist tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
