Almost there!!!

I have an interesting question. I am currently at 148K tier miles and have an upcoming flight on 29th June: JFK-DXB-BOM. Theoretically, I will board the flight at JFK as a Gold and by the time I land in DXB, I will be a Platinum. I have a 3 hr. layover in DXB. Will I get Platinum privileges immediately? Not that it matters a lot right now, but would love to spend 3 hours waiting in the First class lounge instead of the Business Class lounge .

If you're flying on 2 separate tickets then theoretically yes but wouldn't expect it. If it's a single ticket then no. That's because Skywards credits miles after the outbound/inbound of a ticket not on intermediate sectors.

Having said that I am surprised you're not 'already' upgraded to Plat if you're THAT close to 150k? I mean for Gold once you hit 48.75k it morphs into Gold - or at least used to be, can't see why not for the Plat @ 148k especially with your current bookings.

you shall be permitted... just ask for it.... insist.. they will accomodate.. on your future tier miles section you would have crossed 150k...

The simple answer is no since you won't get the credit till you reach Bombay and even then it will take around 6 hours or so before the miles credit your account. You can always try your luck but you will spend a good part of 30 minutes negotiating with the lounge staff unnecessarily.

That sucks. It is what it is I guess. I have written to Skywards asking if they can change my status to Platinum, given that I am this close and have upcoming travel. Lets see what they say.

Almost there!!!

They should say no otherwise what is the point of having a cut off point? There are too many platinums as it is anyway!

The Platinum membership base is public knowledge. Approx 5% of the 110,000 Gold members were upgraded to Platinum when the program launched. So 5,500 members out of a total 8.6M Skywards members.

Good to see the platinums leap to the defence of exclusivity! Was tongue in cheek comment given how many gold members there are. No offence intended!

Quick update. I did write to Skywards asking if they can change my status to Platinum given how close I was and my upcoming travel that would push me to Platinum anyways. They promptly replied refusing to do so (Havoc was right after all ). Asked me to wait till my miles are credited. They did get credited after I completed the journey my account status now shows Platinum.
