Transit time of 1hr50mins at DXB - okay or too short?

Is a one hour and fifty minutes transit at Dubai Airport too short a time? I am planning on getting a ticket travelling from Bangalore - India - to Johannesburg - South Africa - via Emirates, transiting in Dubai. Am wondering if I and my bags will make it. Any input from experienced travellers would be most useful. Thank you.

More than plenty. The minimum connection time for EK flights at DXB is 75 minutes.

If it is during the runway closure period will a 2 hour transit still be a realistic goal??

The runway closing period is May 2014, so no need to worry now.
