Pet as checked baggage
Heading back to the US soon. I want to take my dog with me as additional checked baggage.
Planning on a KWI-DXB-JFK. KWI to DXB is usually a 777, and from DXB-JFK is the 380 if I am correct.
Anyway, has anyone have any experience transiting through DXB with a dog as checked baggage in the cargo hold?
It seems as my only options from KWI-JFK with a dog would be either EK or QR. I am leaning towards QR since I am gold with them and the majority of my miles with them as well, but looking at all my options.
Any comments or suggestions?
Thanks

Have no idea but when I have seen pets being shipped at Heathrow airport they have to be specially shipped. I wouldn't have thought it could count as you luggage as it requires additional handling and paperwork. Is this a serious question?

The image of you trying to contain Fido by sitting on a suitcase is a good one though...!

Pets are not permitted in the cabin, with the exception of falcons between Dubai and certain destinations in Pakistan. Depending on the individual circumstances, pets must be carried either as cargo, or as checked baggage in the hold, and may be subject to excess baggage charges.
Please contact Emirates well before your flight to confirm any required procedures (such as permits, tests, vaccinations, etc) to allow your pet to travel you must complete these before Emirates can make final arrangements for your pet. Note that this process can take a long time, especially in complex cases. Once complete, please allow one week to submit your paperwork to Emirates ahead of your flight.

I have carried a dog in the hold on a flight to DXB (no connections.) It was a lot of hassle and in the end we just found a TA that had experience and told us what to do. Made it a lot simpler.

Do get in contact with Emirates Skycargo as they will be the ones who accept your dog, even though it travels in the hold in the same aircraft as you. You can use your local Emirates office to start the process. You may well be able to bring the dog to the check-in desk, but this is where skycargo take over and take the dog a slightly different route to the aircraft.
QR will most likely have a very similar process.

You also need to check the overall length of your trip incl layover as we want to bring our cats to HK and from Nice the flight time is too long on EK. (EK rule)
