Miles expiring
Can you donate a few miles and keep the rest of the miles active in the skywards program?

No, not if they are due to expire. There is no way to keep the miles past their 3 year use by date. You can book for travel or upgrades just before they expire for a future date that is after their expiration date but if you cancel the trip they they will be recredited and cancelled immediately.
