am very surprised that I was not able to secure a window seat on EK 435 (30 May 13) when I booked my flights 6 weeks ago. Have been checking my reservation daily online but all seats in J are booked/reserved with only 2 middle row / aisle seats still available.

Tried calling the local EK office here in Brisbane only to be told that currently no other seat is available. Currently have 7F but prefer a window seat.

As a QF Platinum am used to getting my preferred seats in J when I book my flights more than 3 months in advance. Is EK 435 (30 May, 13) really fully booked or does EK block out seats online and keep the best seats for their premium flyers ? Do they usually "release" more seats as the date of departure comes closer so does it make sense to check my booking daily ?

Thanks for providing an insight how this is handled by EK.

Expert Flyer will show you a seat map with any seats that are blocked, but usually only row 6 is blocked consistently. Upon check-in you can request them to open up a window in row 6 for you.
