Update - I am currently sitting in it, and am not impressed. I preferred the old lounge with its comfy, wide seats and a business area separate from the hoy polloy. Now it's in the middle of the lounge, open to all and sundry to peer at what you're doing.
I can see why they have done what they have done. Basically it's so they could squeeze in quite a few extra (smaller and narrower) seats. Good luck to Emirates, but I won't be spending much time in there again. It might be OK for Silvers, but the new A lounge beats the pants off it. Everything Emirates does seems to involve reducing standards and benefits for Gold pax. I'm off to have a shower in the DCA first class lounge and then will be strolling over to Terminal A. |

Silver lounge update - reopens
If you will insult the masses you should get the insult right. I believe it is either the polloi or hoi polloi but not the hoi polloi!

Silvers are now entitled to use all the business lounges so you do have at least a choice unlike before.

I used the lounge yesterday, as my departure flight EK506 was from gate C28. In contrary to quite a few of the comments, I found that the refurbished lounge looks quite good and 'new'. The big changes (actually an upside for me) seem that they have a lot of single seater sofas which, imo, is a much better utilization of space and so the lounge has more seating than before. Also, they've packed quite a bit more seats now, so the aisles are a bit narrower, but again all of that is for the big growth that EK is expecting. The eating are seemed much larger than before.
The big upside is that you get a nice view of the tarmac (rather than the Duty free area in the B lounge), and because of so much of light coming in, it makes the lounge look a bit larger than it actually is. At about 8:30 am when I went in, there were only about 10-15 folks in the lounge and I was able to easily get a seat facing the tarmac. |

But when I went, for my EK412 flight, it was considerably packed! Can't imagine what it will be like once the QFEK alliance kicks in. |
Further update: I did enjoy my shower and sleep in the new comfy (large) leather armchairs in the DCA first class lounge (just down from the T C Emirates lounge).
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the Emirates bus lounge in T C is bad, I just don't think it's an improvement over what it was (apart from the smell of fresh paint). Anyway, opinions will differ. There will always be some rusted on folk who would swear black was white if they thought someone might be denigrating their beloved whatever. That's life and politics I suppose. But I always try to be honest (as I see it anyway). |

How come if this refurb is such a wonderful thing that no-one has been able to personally experience it? Sounds like it's a mirage, not really there. |

I've been laid up with pneumonia since I got back from my last trip (early Jan) so my two planned trips were given to a colleague. Got the OK to fly from the doctor but nothing planned until early May, late May, (by which time I will be gold!) early June... but I will report when I do finally get in.

Normally the ones you don't expect, I nearly had a heart attack pegging it down there when the gate was changed. :D

Yes, it can be quite a bit of a walk from concourse B (I actually landed at concourse A) and especially if you have a 'lower' gate number in C.

I am taking this way off topic but and I apologize but isn't that where all the bus gates are?

:D So what you might ask, but with this lounge like a ghost town and my last few EK flights being virtually empty makes me wonder where EK is headed. On my last few flights I've had 3 or 4 seats to myself in Y class, so why bother with C class? Oh, and what flights are departing TC? Well, in the timeframe on the board here, there are flights to Tehran, Kolkata and Bahrain over a 10-hour period. And, FWIW, my wife will probably never fly EK again. Those people on this board who made extremely disparaging and unfounded remarks about her should note she is currently compiling a dossier on those comments. It may sound trite but it might be useful background for an article to be published in the magazine which she edits. The mods are aware of this. Have a nice day everyone. |
