Upgrade dilemma

Hi
I have a dilemma, My wife has 30,200 air miles and will have enough air miles to upgrade from economy to business on one of the final 2 sectors!!! My wife is not a keen flyer and would prefer to sit with me during the flight and she is not really bothered about up-grade using her Miles which will expire in August this year.
My dilemma is, do i use her miles and up-grade myself and leave her sitting on her own in economy, Do i persuade her to try Business Class knowing that she wont be eating or drinking all that much and just sleeping, Or just for get about the Miles and let them expire!!!!

What would you do if you had the option???

On another note, Do you think emirates allow a upgrade with the 31700 knowing that the flight that we are on would give a final mileage of 33200? This would allow a upgrade between Dubai to Bangkok. Emirates did allow me once to book a free return flight which i was 2000 miles short and they loaned me miles so i could do the booking. (we need 32000 for the up grade to business)

Finally, When your blue, Can you use your miles to upgrade on Check-in or boarding, I was given these options when i was Gold.

Upgrade and enjoy yourself

It will be hit and miss depending on which agent answers the call, like you said they have done it in the past for several members. If you fail, hang up and try again.

Only Golds and Silvers get upgrades at airport and onboard.

Does your wife know you have this dilemma? Lord have mercy when she finds out you even contemplated this.

I have no idea how I would even begin to try and talk my way out of that one, would be far to busy dealing with her divorce lawyer. I really cant belive this was put up as a seriouse consideration by the OP.

As others have said, I have no idea how you have a dilemma about upgrading yourself or your wife! It's a waste to let them expire and I don't think your wife would appreciate you sitting up front while she's back in Y. I think you should upgrade her, while you stay in Y.
About your other question, no blues cannot upgrade onboard or at check in or in the lounge. It must be done before the flight (not sure exactly how long before).
I'm not sure about EK loaning you the miles as I've never heard of that happening but it's worth a shot to ask if they've done it for you before.

At least 6 hours before. At least 24 hours before to be eligible for chauffeur drive or special meal service.
