Agreed, the only station I regularly see silvers and blues op-upped Y-J or J-F is BKK (BKK-DXB that is)...! That is of course, pre-coup when loads were strong.

I'm in j on 26 July bkk dxb there aren't many in j on the seat map! Probably be the quietest 380 flight I've ever done.

Is that 375, 373 or 385? 385 is usually the busiest - but definitely post coup the loads have dropped dramatically. Come 26th July it might be busy again however!

Good luck - pre-coup and pre-runway works when they were up to 6, even 7 daily, 375 was still extremely busy!

If you absolutely must guarantee it, then by all means use the miles.

Additionally, are you going to want to use the points any other time, for a redemption or other sector, or is this a one off trip?
Flights are DXB-JFK. Used expert flyer and only 2 of the F seats are blocked or taken. Its 45K points to upgrade to first now. Her ticket is a refundable J ticket. She is flying JFK-DXB-DEL a few times a year and will be gold after this trip. I'm figuring with the high number of points needed with emirates to book a F reward ticket its better for me to transfer my points to Alaska and book through them, and use her points to get her F on some of her flights. Is 45k the normal needed for an upgrade? I know its not the best redemption but its a 13 hr flight and I figure all this back and forth she deserves a better class of travel.

45k is the cost to upgrade a Flex fare which you clearly have - the cost for a saver is 57.5k. I'd say upgrade the sector and earn some brownie points...! F for a 12hr JFK sector is quite the difference over J imho.

It seems to me that this thread is moving away from a single place to report on upgrades given and relevant data to a more general Q and A thread concerning upgrades... but then again perhaps that is just me. Personally I think that it needs to come back to what it was set up for. Thanks.

I've never had an op up from man although I'm generally in j anyway.

2 silvers to j can't happen that often from man. Well done!

Thanks! Last year we got an op up MAN-DXB and DXB-MAN (the last on the A380)
Nothing DXB-MRU though but wasn't expecting one - was very surprised with that one!
